I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.

If we win, you drop the lawsuit.

If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with.

Regardless of the outcome, we could still have a small text somewhere saying our game is not related to your game series in any way, if you wish.

I am serious, by the way.

Mojang is the company that made Minecraft. They have a new game in its early stages of development called Scrolls. Apparently this title triggered the trademark sensors of Bethesda, so they sued Mojang over trademark infringement. Notch, the head of Mojang, is asking for a Trial by Combat to resolve the dispute.

Anyone who tries to consider one word copy right infringement deserves to be fragged in quake 3.

Okay. Doesn't their scrolls have to bare a certain resemblance to the infringed scrolls then?

If I say the word "coke" that's not trademark infringement unless I'm using it to sell soda or my coke bears a strong likeness to the real thing right.

Trust me, I hate hearing things like this. Had I only realized I could have made my name as a professional Defender player back in the day, would have made blowing two years of student loans in quarters much more worthwhile.

Oh yes. Thresh was probably the first. He is the most notable as he received Carmack's ferrari as one of his prizes.

But there professional gamers for all sorts of games. There are even professional Super Smash Bros. Melee players! Sponsored, making-money players while playing Mario against Link (and they are crazy-good).


Edit: At least Notch was smart enough not to challenge Stephen Hawking. He's a f-ing Quakemaster.

There have been professional StarCraft players since Broodwar. It's just not as widespread here in the US or even Europe as it is in South Korea. Esports is gaining a lot of ground and it's almost 100% due to StarCraft 2. I'm not saying there weren't pro gamers before, but pro StarCraft players are the ones really pushing it to legitimacy.
