I took a series of 1950's and 60's-era coffee commercials from the Prelinger Archives and edited them down to just the moments when the guys were the biggest jerks to their wives about coffee.

Pretty funny.

Heh...it was a different time. I was talking to my mom, and when she was in highschool the government had a full ride scholarship that would go to the student that scored highest on an engineering assessment test. It was meant to encourage students to get into engineering. My mom scored higher than any other student.

The principal brought her into his office and told her that she scored the highest, and said that she should be proud. That, of course, she would not get the scholarship because she was a girl, but that she should really look into nursing school. They then used her to embarrass the boys that took the test "Look, you let a girl beat you on the test! You need to do better." The boy who scored second highest on the test got the scholarship.

Then later on, after my mom had moved to Kansas and got married, my Dad got drafted and was stationed in Germany. My mom was still stuck back in Kansas and she wanted to go to college. Even though she had lived in Wichita for over two years, they said she would have to pay out of state tuition because her parents lived in Florida, and her husband lived in Germany. The fact that she lived in Wichita was irrelevant, since she was a woman. Out of state tuition was way too expensive, so that ended thoughts of college at that time.

Every good wife does indeed need to be a little more gay and a little more interesting.

Some of the advice in that column is good advice - for both sexes. For example, don't bombard your spouse with how awful your day was as soon as you see them. That applies whether you stayed at home with the kids or went to work.
