Hmmms, ... I could have sworn I typed 226. And unless they've revised BMI since last time we had this discussion, 226 was still morbidly obese at 6'6".

If you use a BMI calculator that accounts for the fact that he was male, you get a BMI of 23, which is normal. If you don't account for the fact that he is male, you get a BMI of 26 which is one point over the normal range and into the overweight range.

The last time I paid any sort of attention, the BMI considered my skinny *** the ideal height/weight ratio. That's **** up.

There are a lot of different calculators to use. I can put my stats into one and be middle of the normal range, put into another and I'm ready to get on disability and have a foot cut off.

Last article I read on this, BMI really only works for people with one body type- small framed, and tall.

I'm a bit overweight, but my BMI says I'm very obese... Which just isn't true.

BMI has for years been recognized as a horrible, horrible way to determine how overweight someone is- yet somehow, people keep using it.

To measure how overweight and out of shape you are, you need to get a physical from a qualified person. You can't just use a calculator on the Internet.

Well, most people who use the internet read their horoscopes like it's going to tell them how their day will turn out.

Most of those qualified people use BMI too Lex.

Here is my overweight test... Reliable too:
1- Do I have boobs?
2- If yes to above: am I supposed to have boobs?
3- If yes to 1 and no to 2... Put the fork down tubby.

Addendum to test:
If 1 and 2 are yes, then split the girls apart and look down, can you see part of your toes? If no then see 3.

No, they also use measuring tape, and use clamps onto your skin at various parts to see how much is fat, and measure that.

We've had this conversation before. You can't illustrate the inaccuracy of a standard index by applying a non-standard example that's outside it's range. Michael Jordan likely does not fit any standard index.

That's like saying the gravitational acceleration standard of 32.2 ft/sec for the earth is bunk because its different on the top of Everest. You've gotta stay within the range allowable for your standard.

The largest weight category for the Mr. Universe contest (super heavy weight) is for >220 lbs. In his peak, Ahnold was about 250lbs at 6'2". There is no way on earth that Michael Jordan was 326 at 6'6".

Indeed I did. I seriously don't know what's going on. This is twice now recently that I've missed an entire page of content somehow. I think I'm going to switch back to my previous phpbb theme and see if there's some minor difference I'm missing, because I never had this problem before.
