Skipped speech, watched Madmen. He's no Roosevelt, JFK, or even Clinton. Not worth my time.

The Daily Show'll have highlights (or, rather, lowlights) Monday. Never watched addresses before, not really going to start now.

Was at work. I probably would have had to turn it off, as I hear the words "more of the same" being bandied about. I listened to his early speeches, he is the President after all. It seems however I get tired of him repacking the same stuff.

Ha! I actually had something similar to say myself.

Well, I watched it. I was... yeah, about what I expected.

The most ridiculous thing I heard was the tax credit for companies hiring folks that have been out of work longer than 6 months. So if I get laid off, I'm at a disadvantage for 6 months. Nice.

Yeah! Well, except http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default ... bs-act.pdf

Please. Everybody knows the bridges are too big to fall.

It's kind of disingenuous to point out that 5-6 days later, the proposal is provided, when for those same 5-6 days the rhetoric has been "pass this bill now" (which begs the question, because the President submits it, is it even a bill?).

Anyone gong to defend the statements of: "Everything in this bill will be paid for. Everything." and "It will not add to the deficit."? Especially in light of the fact that a major portion of the funding for this is intended to come from a tax revenue plan that failed to pass Congress when the D's held a majority in the House and a Super-majority in the Senate.

Fairly certain the President absolutely doesn't understand the separation of powers :P

He said in his speech that it was going to be available immediately (i.e. during/immediately after the speech. I didn't bother to care or look for it until now, but I've no reason to assume that it wasn't made available at the time of the speech. *shrug*

Ninja edit: The basic plan was posted on Sep. 8, the day of the speech. The full text was posted Monday, Sept. 12th.

I don't particularly care about the act or whether or not it's passed; I just don't like seeing disingenuous bullshit bandied about as unfair criticism.

I understand and applaud your skepticism. How about we meet in the middle and say Congress couldn't pass it because it wasn't submitted to them? I see that he sent a memorandum to Congress on the 12th, and I recall him holding a document while giving his human prop speech in the Rose Garden, on the 12th, saying he was going to submit it to Congress right after the speech.

Do you feel the same about the rhetoric that was used regarding the "bill" being "paid for" and that it will not "add to the deficit"? Do you see that as disingenuous bullshit bandied about to deflect criticism?

It's certainly rhetoric, but I don't understand the correlation to the point at hand...my point of contention was whomever on the last page complaining that it wasn't written down, blah blah blah.

Again, I don't care about the content of the bill...I haven't read it, don't care if it's passed or not, and am pretty resigned to some useless iteration being passed that does nothing but gives both the Democrats and Republican something crow about. But it's like that Rick Perry image in the random pictures thread. Criticize something of note, and don't make **** up.

Edit: wait, no, this page. Figured we'd have hit page 2 by now.

When I started *****, it was the 9th. Obama had been saying pass the bill since the 8th. He finally puts it down for release on the 12th, and if one was inclined to read it and parse the numbers, I'd say the 14th would be the earliest to make judgements.

So nyahhh

Anyone else other than Vindi notice that this "bill" proposes to strip the tax free status from municipal bonds from any investors who earn more than $200k/yr.?

As if munis weren't having enough trouble attracting new investors. Not to mention the effect this will have on the ability of upper-middle class citizens to send their children, who do not qualify for aid, to college.

Poorly thought out, as usual.

On the contrary, it's exceedingly well thought out. If municipalities have a harder time issuing bonds, they'll need more Federal funds, which can have little strings attached. You know, like, "set your DUI limit to X or no highway money for you" type strings.

It's brilliant.

I've read the long version of the bill cover to cover ...

And I wonder why the President wants to demand shift temporary labor by no more than 9 months and call it a massive employment victory.
