If people want to harm others there is next to nothing a third party can do to to stop it once the deterrent factor of the law is not effective. Fences will be climbed, stab proof knives sharpened, zip guns and pipebombs will still be made.

Didn't we let kids bring rifles on the bus back in the "good old days"?

Indeed. Hence the problem.

However, the public has been deceived by the insistence on talking about "gun crime" as if that's somehow special. Its not. You're just as dead if you get blown up or stabbed, as shot.

Like I said, gun control is a solution looking for a problem. The people insisting on extensive gun control are interested in controlling guns, not really in controlling violence or deaths. The means is the end for them.
