If you didn't play these games when they were current-gen, you owe it to yourself to buy and play these gorgeous recreations.

It's my opinion that SotC is the best game that the PS2 ever had. It should be in the beaten portfolio of every gamer. The sense of scale and unique game style really made an impact when it came out.

Admittedly, Shadow of the Colossus has withstood the test of time with much more poise than its companion piece. The things that made Ico magical are still pretty darn magical, but the past ten years have brought about so many improvements that are notably absent in the studio's flagship game. For instance, the AI which puppeteers the game's constant companion Yorda seems desperately antiquated by today's standards.

Shadow of the Colossus, on the other hand, is still one of the most remarkable video games ever created. And with its newfound buttery smoothness, this is undoubtedly the best way to play it. If you've already toppled its sixteen guardians many times over, it's still worth diving back in to see the considerable polish the game has received since its original release in 2005. If you've never played it, my envy of you knows no bounds. You are in for an unreproducible treat.

I never played ICO, but I loved SotC. However, I will be putting this HD remake on the list for post christmas, thanks to the staggering number of AAA titles coming out between now and the end of the year.

No. Can't even emulate SotC well because it uses some different rendering techniques than most games that's apparently hard to nail down.

Huh, thanks. May have to look into that, since I now have a PS2 (10 years LLTP).

I picked up this remake 2-pack tonight, since I'm terribly impulsive. I only had half an hour to play it tonight, the great majority of which was the introductory cutscene sequence of SotC. I then wandered aimlessly for a few minutes then had to turn it off. I might be able to play it again this weekend, if I remember to.

Since this is an HD remake, i'm pretty sure it's on PS3. (also, it's two ps2 games on one disc.)

Eh...SotC wasn't all that great imo. Neither was ICO, for that matter.

I really really liked a lot of parts of SotC, but it had its drawbacks too. I felt it was kinda too long. I enjoyed exploring the world, but that enjoyment wore off long before I was done tracking down the last colossus. I also felt a lot of colossi were themselves a bit redundant and boring, being too similar to ones already beaten. There were cool ones definitely, but it was far from all of them.

Gameplay ended up more like a puzzle game IMO, usually trying to identify what path the developers made for you to take. This isn't a bad thing, necessarily, but it got a little old too.

Still, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it. The mood is extremely well done, and frankly I haven't personally experienced anything similar to fighting colossi in that game. They nearly all feel ponderous and massive, exactly like you would expect. Even the flying one, which is graceful... it's just... words don't really work too well to describe it. :p Hence my recommendation to experience the game if you haven't!
