In my futile quest for Winter Classic tickets, I stumbled across a contest from Bridgestone Tires (Game sponsor).

In reading the fine print of the contest rules and eligibility, I came across this:

Quote:
If the selected entrant is a Canadian resident, he/she must correctly answer unaided a time-limited arithmetic skill-testing question to be administered by telephone at the time of his/her response to the notification of selection as a condition to being eligible to win a Prize.

I wonder why Bridgestone requires that a Canadian, if selected, needs to pass a math test to be able to claim a prize.

*boggle*

Probably their method of proving you're a human and not a voice recording.

This is because in Canada you have to win a prize through a competition, and not as a gift. So this is a shortcut. I can't remember if it's for tax reasons or for lawful reasons.

Probably similar to how in Utah you can't smoke in public places as well as some liquor laws regarding public places, so we have a lot of night clubs that are "Clubs for private members." Basically you pay a one-time small fee to become a member and.... voila. No longer a public place. Sunmoon himself was confused by this when he visited Utah many moons ago, and asked me about it via phone. :D

Now those crazy Canadians need to do something similar as well and get Mountain Dew labeled as an "energy drink" so they can put the caffeine back in! ;-)

Caffeinated sodas are illegal in Canada?

No, not quite.

They are allowed in "Colas" and "energy drinks." Mountain Dew is defined as neither, so therefore no caffeine. I discovered this the hard way and by accident. If I would have known, I would have smuggled more American Dew in.
