Yeah, they hurt if you fall asleep and drop them on your face! And they need to be charged. And some of them are really badly converted. But the ink doesn't smudge!

And they're e-books ...

... so not books!

Although, people who enjoy e-books are at least reading and that's ok with me.

Hmm, that brings up a philosophical point... is a 'book' a physical object or the content it contains?

The physical object. The content it contains is something else.

Sometimes I go to the bookstore and browse the shelves to figure out which e-books to buy on Amazon. Is that wrong?

Taamar and I have browsed through a bookstore, taking pictures of books we wanted to download so we wouldn't forget 'em.

Has it always been this way for you (like your personality), or is it a particular situation?

I'm glad I didn't have food in my mouth at this moment because I would have spit it out.

I made no comment on the value. It could be good, or bad, or really, really bad, etc. literature.

I have a cricket in my house that I cannot find. Horny little bastard-- anyone know any slutty insects? This bug has GOT to get laid if I'm going to get any sleep.

My son's teacher's son is medicated, his principal's son is medicated, his football coach's son is medicated, his music teacher's son is medicate, his friends are medicated...I don't want to medicated my child, why is everyone an advocate for this stuff and suggesting I medicate my kid?? What happened to "letting boys be boys??"

As a person who is medicated, let me ask you: why would you resist a thing that might make your child more comfortable in his head? Would you do the same if he needed something like insulin? Why is medicating for a neurological problem different than medicating for an endocrine problem? Both can be devastating.

My parents did what you are doing. I wish they hadn't; I spent my whole childhood working twice as hard as the other kids to accomplish less, because I started at such a disadvantage. I cried the first time I took Adderall and wondered why they let me struggle through everything when it could have been different. It's not necessarily a question of 'letting boys be boys', it can be an issue of 'giving kids the tools to be the kids they want to be, rather than feeling like they have no control over their actions'.

Obviously I don't know your son, and I'm not qualified to make a diagnosis anyway... but please don't reject the idea of medication out of hand as if it's a cheat code for parents who don't want to parent. Think of it as a prosthetic attention span to replace the one he was born without.

Taamar, I made him an appt with a behavioral specialist at the end of this month...if she thinks he really needs medication, we'll get a referral to someone....I just don't like the idea of medication and want to make SURE that it's not something else...I have a sinking feeling it is though.

If a qualified doctor thinks a person should be taking something then 9 times out of 10 they should... maybe even 99/100.
