I will withhold my gloating over the Yankees losing last night until the Phillies win tonight.

Going to be a nail biter.

So far everything is unfolding in the best way possible at this point. Rays eliminated? Check. Yankees gone? Check.

At this stage I'm pulling hard for a Detroit/Milwalkee World Series, but I'd be willing to settle for Detroit/Arizona.

Fairly certain that Hopwin would root for Jose Canseco before he rooted for the Phillies ...

And if that's not true, then Hopwin will be swimmin' at the bottom of the Cuyahoga soon enough!

I'd rather watch the Phillies win the World Series.

This I find hard to believe. I thought your hate of all things Philly (esp. the battery wielding Phillies fans) trumped all other hatreds.

I'm guessing it all comes down to whether he'd rather be assaulted with a battery or an octopus.

Oh, and Rynar....

I am so glad the Flyers beat the Bruins last night. I turned that game on @ 7:00, the scheduled start time, and had to watch a half hour of Stanley Cup celebratory wankery before they finally dropped the puck.

Yes, they swept the Flyers out of the playoffs last year, but don't get used to it. We're a different team this year. Seriously, I don't recognize half of the players on the team.

F*ck the Bruins.

Jose Canseco is a manly man to be sure but to be honest, I could care less about the Phillies winning or losing. My Indians missed the playoffs because the Tigers swept them in three consecutive series (not that I expected them to even contend this year) so now I am simply an anti-fan of Detroit.

Wait ...

You, an admitted Cleveland Indians, are unaware of the ... insult he issued to the Cleveland Indians when they drafted him his rookie year?

What the **** are you talking about? Canseco was drafted out of highschool in 1982, in the 15'th round by the Oakland Athletics, where he signed, and spent his entire career until 1992 when he was moved to the Texas Rangers for Ruben Sierra, Jeff Russell, and Bobby Witt.

So, who had money on the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies being eliminated before the Championship series?

Craziness indeed. Go... Tigers? Tigers-Brewers!

3 hits.. sigh.

I wonder what it would look like if you add up all the 1-for-7's and such between the Phillies and Yankees... pretty extreme stuffs. Weird things happen when you take the best teams of 162 games and make it do-or-die over 5 games. Whole marathon -> sprint thing.

Yea, I think I'm pulling for a Tigers Brewers World Series. I like both of those teams. I think half of the Tigers roster are former Mariners, and I really like Doug Fister. He's an easy guy to root for.

Thanks Phillies for a fun season. Your recent successes (Playoff let-downs, notwithstanding) have helped draw me back to baseball. I grew up with the sport and had fallen away because of other life issues. Your resurgence as a competitive team has brought me full circle to appreciate America's pasttime, Baseball. Win or lose, there is something magical about baseball that will always keep me close to it.

Hockey may have taken a front seat, but Baseball is now and, forever will be, right beside in the passenger seat.

Hopefully, my son will learn to love Baseball from me my much the same as I did from my father.

I am not sure what he is referencing. I thought it was a very vague reference to the greatest play in professional sports ever:

Spoiler:
Canseco suffered his most embarrassing on-field moments with in Texas. On May 23, 1993, he leapt into the air at the wall to snag a fly ball from Cleveland Indians' Carlos Martinez, but as he did so, the ball ricocheted off his head over the wall for a home run.

Yeah, but Canseco's rookie year was 1986.
