Deregulation. It's the government that's said you have to buy your energy/heating fuel from corporation X. Otherwise you could use whatever corporation (or smaller organization such an an electric cooperative) to buy these from. Or they are public utilities run by the government. Yes there are certain segments of the public who are only serviced by one electric provider even with deregulation, but they are the tail not the dog.

If you're really set in your convictions, you could move or even chop fire wood. Humanity has existed for ~5800 years (longer if you're an evolutionist) without AEP. lived for I think the point is that most of these people aren't that set in their convictions.

I don't think those are the corporations they are unhappy with (utilities).

I think they are unhappy (primarily) with the big national banks. At least that's what I'm getting from the local TV interviews.

It's more appropriate to be angry with the government that enables them to be what they are.

The problem with Obama to begin with is he had 0 experience as someone with executive authority (such as a governor, mayor, CEO, etc.). He was a lawyer, and then a statesman. You could never expect much from him as President. A lot of people don't understand this. Running things is a skill that takes a lot of practice and predisposition, I imagine.

Ideology and intention only goes so far. When Alexander the Great inherited the throne from his father, I'm sure he had great ambitions. But if he sucked ***, Greece and Macedonia would have remained as a bunch of bickering city states, much less a great empire stretching the known world.

I'm pretty sure there would only be one electric provider basically everywhere even with total deregulation. Every power company would have to build its own infrastructure, so if there were 5 competing companies 80% of that infrastructure would be totally wasted.

You've used this argument with internet and video service and it doesn't hold true. Verizon/Bell didn't begin to competively price until they had to compete. There aren't wires from every provider on the utility poles. As it stands now, the companies already "play nice" without the gov stepping in. Make a call from east coast to west coast on Verizon... guess what, youre actually using Comcast to get across the country. All the providers use each others sat farms to get services to areas. They work together to share time on sats etc.

Regulation adds cost. Always. Of course there needs to be ground rules for transmission/strength/etc but not the bludegon of rules that the FCC is used as now.

I'm going to visit Occupy Boston today. I'm too curious. I'll bring my laptop and maybe get some work done as well.

So I took some photos of Occupy Boston. I live in Somerville which is only a subway train away, so it was easy to get to.

The whole thing reminded me of the atmosphere in Deus Ex.

Spoiler:

Last night, the protesters tried to cross the street in front of me to where I am standing to set up camp. Needless to say, the police were not pleased and arrested the ones who resisted.

Well, the Occupy Wall Street Protest and its offshoots are problematic and flawed from a factual standpoint. These people have been moved to actions (as ineffective as it might be) by some horribly flawed (in most cases) and outright fallacious rhetoric that does not reflect any manner of reality.

So, I took my laptop, a projector, and a projector screen to our local protest and killed it with facts.

Oh no, not facts! That's very unfair of you.

The protesters are going to be kicked out of the park tomorrow morning so it can be cleaned. I can't wait to wake up and read the news.

http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/unsanit ... 111013-APX

Quote:
NEW YORK - Protesters in Zucotti Park in Lower Manhattan were being told to move by Friday morning to allow for cleaning crews to perform maintenance.

http://occupywallst.org/

Quote:
NEED MASS TURN-OUT, SHOW UP NO LATER THAN 6 A.M.

This is an emergency situation. Please take a minute to read this, and please take action and spread the word far and wide.

Occupy Wall Street is gaining momentum, with occupation actions now happening in cities across the world.

But last night Mayor Bloomberg and the NYPD notified Occupy Wall Street participants about plans to “clean the park”—the site of the Wall Street protests—tomorrow starting at 7am. "Cleaning" was used as a pretext to shut down “Bloombergville” a few months back, and to shut down peaceful occupations elsewhere.

Bloomberg says that the park will be open for public usage following the cleaning, but with a notable caveat: Occupy Wall Street participants must follow the “rules”.
NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has said that they will move in to clear us and we will not be allowed to take sleeping bags, tarps, personal items or gear back into the park.
This is it—this is their attempt to shut down #OWS for good.

They're protesting the wrong people. They all need to go off and "Occupy Washington" or "Occupy Congress"

The "Wall Street" people don't give less than two **** about it, aside from the smell.
