Taamar, I made him an appt with a behavioral specialist at the end of this month...if she thinks he really needs medication, we'll get a referral to someone....I just don't like the idea of medication and want to make SURE that it's not something else...I have a sinking feeling it is though.

I know it's a tough spot to be in. Just remember... if meds turn your kid into a zombie give up on THAT med, not all of them. The right meds should make him feel in control and self-aware and more human than he's ever felt before... not like he's anesthetized and going though the day in a fog.

I was terrified of meds before I started taking them, but I'm very glad that I do now.

For a lot of people ... I won't deny that these things are over-prescribed. But that doesn't have anything to do with your son, either. What other people do shouldn't influence your decision one way or the other.

My advice would be that if you have any suspicion of concentration problems -- which doesn't necessarily mean distractability, impulsivity, or hyperactivity -- find a good diagnostician who can perform specific tests and give you specific answers.

There comes a point beyond which a job is no longer merely "boring", "tedious", or "repetitive". Go too far down that path and it becomes punishment.

My current assignment doesn't feel like "work" anymore. It feels like I've been kept after school and forced to write sentences on the blackboard :(

That's unfortunate. With jobs there's two scales - "Do I make a good living" and "Do I love this work". You can try to overlap them as much as possible but it's very difficult to get both entirely.

And this contract is neither :(

You've found the "right one" when you find the one that doesn't play "games". ;)

Keep searching.....and I wish you luck.

I found mine almost 15 years ago. I am a lucky SOB, and I don't mind admitting it.

We need a "shameless whoring" self-promotion thread where we can post links to vote for contests we've entered, links to buy books we've written, to buy artwork we've created, guitars we've made that are up for sale *coughMidgencough*, and other things like that.

Didn't you make a thread like that a while back? I'm pretty sure I remember one.

I remember bringing it up before, but nothing stuck.

I really want a hot dog right now. Specifically, I would like to try one I saw on Man vs Food a while back that I would guess is not immediately available on the East coast.

The Sonoron Hot dog....

You could make one ;) Nothing really exotic in there.

The Sonoran hot dog, found in Tucson, Metro Phoenix, and in neighboring Sonora, Mexico, is a hot dog grilled in a processor or on a griddle, wrapped in Mesquite-smoked bacon, topped with freshly chopped tomatoes, onions, shredded yellow or cotijo cheese, tomatillo salsa or red chili sauce, pinto beans, mayonnaise, ketchup and/or mustard, and served on bread and often with a fresh-roasted chili. It originated in Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora.
