Also is there a way to engage the GPU to up the hash rate with solid coin?

You're getting a pretty decent hashrate. I get about 17-18 khash. I'm sitting on just over 500 solidcoins in 22 hours. Of course, the difficulty started at 6 and is now 3600. So it will be interesting to see how many I will get in the next 24 hours or so...

GPU mining doesn't work, you'd have to recode the miner. Even if you could get it to work, it would be so inefficient. The algorithm is written for CPUs only.

You could use your GPU to mine Bitcoins while you mine SolidCoins with your CPU. I would do this, except it's not very profitable to mine Bitcoins.

Are you in a pool or solo - I am solo havent made any since I got home. Don't really get how pools would be better when it should be the same chance over the long run + fees.

Over the long run solo mining is better (theoretically) since you don't have to pay fees. You get 32 solidcoins every block you find solo mining. Unfortunately because your hashrate is so low (you're just one man!!!!), "long run" might be months or years since there is so much competition, you will be waiting forever to get each block.

Solo mining = HUGE amounts of variance. For instance, lets say at your hashrate you can expect to mine 320 solidcoins per year. With a pool, you'll be getting a constant steady supply of solidcoins, because the pool has so much processing power the chances of the pool finding blocks very often are high, and the payout is divided amongst the members of the pool, minus fees. Whereas with solo mining, you'll still get your 320 per year, but you might go 4 months without finding anything, and then you'll find 2 blocks, and then go another month or two without finding anything, etc. That is the definition of variance.

Pool mining ensures a steady payout.

It's really only worth it to solo mine if you have a lot of hashing speed or you mine early on when the difficulty was less than 1000... (it's 8819 right now)

The security of the network and utility of SolidCoins. People buy them because they are useful for making payments online. Similar to any currency's value; people accept them as payment because they have a store of value. The only reason people accept any currency is because they know they will be able to trade them for something of approximate value.

Right now it's mostly speculation, as the currency is in it's infancy. The more businesses that accept SolidCoin as payment, and the more people mining and trading with SolidCoins, the stronger the SC economy will grow and the value will rise....and the price will follow the market value. There is also a chance that people will just lose interest for whatever reason and they will lose their value. It really just depends on how many people think SolidCoin is interesting or useful for sending money online.

There's no gold standard or anything like the Dollar has...

Yeah, see, even though that's a good payout overall, you can see it's much harder than it was during the first 12 hours or so--I've mined about 584 so far.

I'm having issues with my miner being stuck at 0 and getting a lot of invalid shares at squidnet as well.

EDIT: I've now started mining on Coinotron and SquidNet. They automatically balance to about 50/50% and if one goes to 0 the other one goes up to 100% mining power. Awesome.

Quote:
Welcome! Point your SolidCoin miners to miners.squidnet.org:8000
If in case the domain does not resolve, use this address until it has been resolved: 96.8.126.108:8000

Under recent times, we have been under attack and been down in total for about 4 1/2 hours since the launch of SolidCoin. We have tried the best to limit fake requests so the legit miners can get through. If anyone tells you they were banned from squidnet, they are lying or were one of the culprits sending massive amounts of fake data and/or DDoS attempts on the server. We have tried to limit these behaviours the best we can rather than outright ban them.
We apologize for the downtime and will be compensating by setting the given rewards by 5 SLC per block higher for today.

bold by me

I've only mined about 16 SC in the last 12 hours.

I'm very glad I got in and started mining early!

Difficulty seems to be going up rapidly. I noticed we went from .13 of a BC to .36 in a day.

So what makes the difficulty go up and down?

It has something to do with the hashing algorithm getting harder to solve as time goes on and also as more people mine coins in order to compensate for increased computing power over time.

I was talking to the dev the other day he said ideally it should keep it so there's about a 20k a day solidcoin generation overall---there are approx 1.5 million coins in existence right now, 1.12 of them are from solidcoin 1, before the network was taken down and updated.

Geh my pitiful 25 coins is nothing out there.

Did you see the place that will take solidcoins and mail you junk silver dimes?

Yeh, I saw the rate of return... Its disappointing.

Each one is worth what .0065BTC or something?

Its not even worth my clock cycles at the moment. I mined like 18 in 48 hours.

Yeah it's not profitable to mine at the current market value / difficulty unless you have a lot of hashing power.

The source code will be released sometime this coming week, before Saturday. Also will be releasing 2.01

On a side note I've switched to 100% Coinotron. The solidcoins are coming in much faster than SquidNet.

I've been on coinotron for a while - squidnet never accepted the account I created for my miners.

Bitcoin price continues to drop.

2 more new currencies for trade on btc-e...

The market is absolutely flooded with not only a crapload of solidcoins that were mined easily the first few days of SC2.0, but a bunch of other coins that are also trying to take over as the leading cryptocurrency.

Well I am holding for the long run. CPU mining is more available and it sounds more secure so I am hoping solidcoin emerges the winner.
