I don't know. I've used almost all of them at one point or another. I wouldn't say that any of the modern incarnations are per se better or worse than any other GUIs out there. Gnome 2 and XFCE can both be set up very similarly to the MacOS shell, for instance.

I haven't tried LXDE yet, and I haven't used Unity long enough to have much of an opinion on it. It lets me run/switch tasks and desktops. I tend to not care much about GUIs beyond that, frankly.

I've used Windows 7, OSX Lion, 10.10 and 11.04 Ubuntu, and Mint Linux, and everything Linux is far worse from a user-interface standpoint than both major OSes. It's lots of little things that add up.

I haven't used KDE. Gnome doesn't hold up to modern Windows/Mac interfaces. I would put it roughly equivalent to XP.
