The number of attempts thing sounds alright for heroic mode... but unless "several weeks" means 2 or 3 it's kinda disappointing otherwise.

I've never been a fan of either attuning or gating. Gating is just another way to say attunement, except requiring no work on the players' part. When Velious was first released, anyone could zone into the Temple of Veeshan. Your "attunement"? Being badass enough to actually kill anything in there. :p That's how attunement should work!

I guess to an extent this is clashing with the normal/heroic difficulty model. They gated Sunwell in a very similar fashion to what they plan here in Icecrown, and unless you could stretch out a lore reason (which does make sense, but this is one of the areas where gameplay trumps lore IMO) it only mattered for an extremely limited amount of guilds. Brutallus gated plenty of them, in a way that Should Be. Even Kalecgos was a pretty good gate unless your guild was farming BT for awhile at that point. So the Sunwell gating seemed aimed at the really top end guilds, to better progression battles without it resorting to who stays awake the longest. Since everyone else was gated by Brutallus's fistbladethings, they didn't really care.

Now we have gating for normal modes, which are not going to be terribly difficult. Joe Q Public's guild is likely going to be hitting these artificial gates unless "several" weeks means 2. Joe Q Public's guild is also not going to be at risk of blowing through all the content like the uberguilds, such that they actually run out of stuff to do 3 weeks into the patch, so artificially extending things in a way that blocks Mr Public seems weird. I'm pretty sure no one on my server has even fully finished Ulduar yet, so on fail servers like mine I don't see much benefit for the awkward fake gating.

I guess on the bright side I won't have the urge to push my 10 man to stay up late? It's like enforced casualness. :p Maybe the very few attempts per week thing initially will actually get guildies to watch videos to learn fights, too... perhaps if I can ignore the principles at work and learn to like ToC (Twins *is* a fun fight as a Moonkin!) I can will myself into only enjoying the silver lining. If I look at things strictly selfishly it actually probably matches my guild's normal progression anyway! All two days a week of it.

Personally, I think we should have a WoW subforum.

Under the "gaming" forum? Build it, they will come.

I'm fine with that, and you have the power. Get crackin'!

I don't mind the "Kill this boss before you can advance" Hell, Uld was like that. FL, XT, Kolo... etc. Just make the content *available* for us to play with. Let us wipe as much as we want on normal modes. If we need better gear, let us figure that out for ourselves instead of saying. in essence, your gearscore must be this high to enter.

We have a fairly core group of raiders that have been doing ToC every week since it came out. We're all pretty well geared in 245/232 gear (blasted trophies. Another artificial limit on gear :( ). We generally don't have the rDPS to do ToGC25 unfortunately, we're close, but eh. If this content's anything like ToC in difficulty, we'll run into the artificial release date block set forth a week or three before the next wing is available. Depending on what Blizz means by "Several weeks"... yeah. Really, none of this is good news. 16ish weeks of fighting fundamentally the same 5 bosses 2-3 times a week...

Disappointing.

For our guild:
3.3 Progression: Week one. 3.3 hits Tuesday, we get through the first 3 encounters on Tues, wipe 5 times to the 4th, and call it a night @7:30pst.
Wednesday, TOC/Ony/VoA
Thurs our 10 man crews (A squad, mostly hardcore people, and B Squad, everyone else) rampages through the first 4 bosses on 10 man. Squad A goes on to ToGC and rips that apart. Squad A calls it a night at 8:30 PST, squad B @ 7:30 PST.
Next Tues, our 25 squad goes into ICC, and repeats the performance. *almost* getting the 4th boss down before we lose on our 5th attempt because someone stands in a fire (probably me, because I have a habit of doing something stupid after mentioning the stupid thing not to do.)
rinse, repeat for a month. following the same pattern for each content release.
March, Arthas comes out, we beat his *** 2-3 weeks or so later.

Who created a subforum? How much did Screeling have to pay? I'm betting there were many deviant sexual favors.

The "staggered release" is far less of an annoyance than the disabling of hard modes until everything is out. It would probably take all but the top guilds several weeks to beat each wing on hard anyway, but only allowing normal mode for three months means there's nothing to do for three months, as everything will be stupid easy for basically no reward. Hard mode ToC is ilvl258 and well itemized, normal IC is 264 and not itemized so well, (less sockets) so there are barely upgrades.

Which would be easily solved by releasing the whole thing all at once.

I get that we can't zerg in, ignore every encounter and pwn Arthas' face. I get that. I don't believe the artificial extension of raid content is anything but that. Release the whole raid like Ulduar. All of it, all at once. Let the uber1337 guilds stay up all tuesday night to get their World First achievement, and let the rest of the playerbase proceed at their own pace.

A huge warning to everyone: If you don't have an authenticator I'd get one ASAP, the switch to everyone having bnet accounts (with email address as login) has made it significantly easier to hack accounts. Once they get your email address from a spam list or whatever, there's a tool that they can use that basically spams login attempts to the forums with every word in the dictionary until they hit your password.

Anyone who uses a single world password like that deserves what they get.

Anyone bored enough to take a look at my gear and tell me how you'd gem at this point? Any obvious changes I need to make? I just upgraded some stuff so my stats are a bit all over the place:

http://wow-heroes.com/index.php?zone=us ... me=Dashhal

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... &n=Dashhal

My Hit is capped. Expertise isnt although factor in that I'm getting 10 Expertise from Glyph of Seal of Vengeance, but I'm thinking gem for more Expertise at this point yes?

For Retribution Paladins, once you're hit capped I'm fairly sure you should just gem straight +STR in everything. Possible exceptions exist if it's a red socket that you can socket STR/crit in with a +STR socket bonus. Make sure to activate your meta gem, though.

Str in everything, you can use a Str/Crit gem if the socket bonus is +4str or greater.

The 15th is just a guess, but...

"Great news, everyone! Icecrown Citadel is being released on December 15th! But terrible news, everyone! You won't get to fight me! :("

to which my buddy replies:

"Great news, everyone! The plagueworks have been unlocked! But terrible news, everyone! The tank disconnected and you have just wasted one of your five tries!"

Get Hit capped. Gem for +STR. However, you definitely want to have as much expertise as you can find on gear(up to the cap), including the glyph for SoV/SoM. Basically, you want to make absolutely sure that your white hits land on a boss every single time.

But yes, gem nothing but strength. However, if you have a colored slot with a nice STR bonus, you can toss an expertise/str gem in there if you are short on the cap, or a crit/str gem in there.

Hit>Expertise/STR>crit>whatever else.

Haste is a little better than armor pen, but it's tiny margins. I would show you my gear/build, but it appears I logged out in my tank spec before I left on tour. :(

I'm curious what makes you think it's easier to hack battle.net over your warcraft account?

Is the battle.net site somehow more vulnerable to brute force attacks than warcraft.com was before?

And FYI, I use an authenticator, just because its so perilous browsing WoW related sites, that it was worth the $6 or whatever. I use a similar two-factor token for all of my equipment access at work too.

I'm really just curious if you are aware of a vulnerability with battle.net? Or is this just a theory?

Its the idea that they can get an email address more easily than they can get a dedicated username.
