Just finished a story with my kids called "Encounter"



Had the kids write a quick thought blurb on their feelings based on the story about Christopher Columbus and the Taino.

One kid said, " I don't blame him, he had to do what he had to do."

I love this next thought, he said, "Sometimes the big have to take down the small, that is just nature." Wow! I know I don't like Christopher Columbus, but I told him his answer was just awesome because he really did put some thought into and didn't just spit back facts to me about the treatment of the Tainos. He defended how he believes in the idea that the King and Queen may punish him for not doing his job and he was just looking out for himself.

That just made my day! I asked him then what he wanted to be when he grew up. He said he wants to design and run his own sneaker company. I Laughed and said, "Perfect, I know I will probably be buying sneakers from you in the future."
