So now that I have a higher end TV, blu ray player and room to watch stuff in (almost), I need some good HD content. What are your favorite HD Movies, Documentaries, TV Shows etc that you'd say are must-haves in Blu-Ray or HD quality?

So far my first choice will probably be:

I have Blu-Ray but without a higher refresh rate on my TV I don't notice a difference

Yeah. Blu-Ray framerate is 24FPS, 60Hz on a TV is enough to display it 2.5x over. I doubt refresh rates are your problem.

I don't what else it could be. Sony Bravia 60hz 1060p LCD with a Sony Blu-Ray player. I see absolutely no difference between up-coded DVD and Blu-Ray.

If he can't tell the difference between a normal DVD and a Blu-ray, those are very relevant questions.

42" about 12' away and my eyes are tip-top now (contact replacement).

You're barely sitting close enough to notice 720p resolutions, which would explain why you can't tell a difference between upscale DVD and a Blu-ray. At 42" you don't want to be sitting further than 7-8 feet. Ideally you wanna be underneath that green line.

You should still see a difference in color.

Also depends on what movie he's comparing DVD to Blu-ray with. Some Blu-rays are **** fantastic in their quality, others ho-hum.

More to the point regarding the OP:
I LOVE "The Universe" or "How the Universe Works" or "Through the Wormhole" and will usually have them turned on my TV even if the sound is muted just for something cool to look at.

Er... so if I am reading that right, to experience the "full" effect of 1080p (red line) I should sit less about arm's length +1 foot away from my TV? To think of all the money I've been wasting on Remote Controls

Just for reference (and something I thought was interesting) watching a 42" TV from 12' away is about the same as watching the same video on your iPod ~12" away.

Puts in perspective about how close you want to sit.

That's correct. A lot of people don't realize that when planning out TV sizes or seating arrangements. They want 1080p, even if they don't realize it wont matter in their homes

It's why I have a 60" in the living room (still not quite big enough) and a 42" in my bedroom.

I reckon I'll have to size up but I'd imagine prices have dropped rather significantly since I was last in the market.

Interesting chart. So a 55" at about 8 feet away should be a decent set up for 1080p and ignore anything higher than that when it becomes available.

This is why I think I'll be buying a 720p when I get mine. Upgrading from a 24" to a 32", I'd have to be very close to notice the difference.

If I'm watching something alone, I might be that close, but if I've got people over, we'll more than likely be far enough away that we really can't notice the difference.

Besides that, I have no blue-rays, and I'd prefer to keep my bandwidth down by streaming non-HD content.
