Doom! Doom 3 was a mere ghost of Doom. Doom II has plenty of room for a takeoff. Get back to the good old style psuedo satanic flavor. That's what made the original so scary and putrid; it had a romantic element that was completely abanonded in 3 for a sci-fi sort of take.

Your wish has been granted. Long live Jambi.

They are making another Thief game but I think they are going to take the series in a new direction. I have mixed feelings about this, but I am more in a "wait and see" phase.

Shining Force, tbh.

Not this new hack-n-slash style they've slapped the SF name to, but the classic, simple-menued system of the SEGA system days.

In fact, the Genesis/Sega CD had some awesome games that were very much under-appreciated. Revist those in the modern style (while keeping the core game play) and you got some real winners.

I so agree with this it isn't even funny. I played and even enjoyed the new ones, but they really shouldn't be called Shining Force. Needs me some more Fire Emblem styled srpgs, good lord.

Hmmm...I haven't heard about this. I guess I need to do a little googling.

That was a great game and I ended up buying an old copy that I never was able to get to work on my new PC. Damn now I'm jonesing to play that again.

It was similar to Civilization without the city building micro management.

Ooh, good call. That was friggin' great game. But I don't see the similarities to Civ, other than ... No, no, don't see Civ in there at all, really! PGII was a battlefield-level tactical simulation game of a very specific historical period. Are you sure you're thinking of this Panzer General II?

Dalaran is an abomination of a city that I think Blizzard finally learned from (Shattrath had similar issues) and as such aren't making a single hub where everyone hangs out in Cataclysm. I don't really know what they were thinking, when they know the vast majority of the playerbase is going to have troubles with it. Ah well.

Didn't I read something on the Glade recentishly about a remake of Descent? Cause you are right, Nev! Descent worked damn well and I never really saw anything like it since.

It has also got me remembering Subspace. Not that they were terribly similar or anything, but I don't know that there's much like that game out there now. It would make great XBL fodder. Very simple design that was easy to pick up but hard to master (how's that for a gaming cliche for that other thread? :p), very very easy to just log into a game in progress and start playing, etc etc. I had fun with it!

You're probably thinking about the comparison I made to how Descent revolutionized space sim design by really taking advantage of the "why should there be an 'up'?" notion, to how Shattered Horizons does a similar thing for FPS design.

Ha yeah that's the one. Maybe Civ is a bad analogy but I'm thinking in terms of moving your units to capture objectives in the scenarios for PGII is similar to moving your Civ war units to cap cities in Civ. No?

Anyway definitely a great game and it included the units called "Nebelwerfers"!

Ah, OK, in that respect, yeah. But, that just strikes me as any wargame, given that I've played wargames for, oh, about 35 years now.

But, yeah, I loved the accuracy of that game. Unit damage, experience effects, different models of each line of tank, etc.

I would love to see a non PS exclusive remake (X Box 360 and PS3) of Xenogears. IMNSHO I think this was better than most games I played.

The storyline was really detailed, there were plot hooks that I never saw coming (and nothing like the stupid FF7 'Aeris dies even though I have Phoenix Materia and 99 Phoenix Downs').

The combat system between the people and switching to your Gear was sweet. I would just love to see the game with all new graphics.

Darksiege, phoenix downs never brought someone back to life. They brought someone back from being knocked out/collapsed/exhausted.

Besides, it was really just a gaming mechanics thing and I don't think it affected the story. I mean, damn, it was Sephiroth / Jenova they were dealing with.

Coming from an AD&D standpoint... 0 hp is dead. Unless you use the optional rule.

I just felt that if they can justify me running from a monster after it eats a party member... and I still have the party member available... Getting stabbed should be low key stuff.

The original Homeworld game, but with better graphics. (Same story please!)

Mutant League Football is far and away the game most in need of a next-gen remake.

Oh hell yes. Need me some Mutant League Football. Aside from Blades of Steel for the NES, the two Mutant League games were the only sports games I ever enjoyed in the history of ever.

Well, I made a post on one of the older Glade incarnations, so it was a while ago.

I was asking if anyone knew any modern looking games that were like Descent.

There weren't any.

So yeah, a remake of Descent or a spiritual successor would be pretty f*cking amazing right now.

All of the old Forgotten Realms games by SSI that don't run in Win XP (I miss the funky glyph wheel to prevent bootlegging)
Might & Magic 1-6.
Shadow Warrior (FPS, you are a ninja who makes snarky Duke Nukem comments with interesting weapons)
