Told you that you were promoted, or asked you if you would accept a promotion the company was offering? Be wary of the first, proud of the second.

Gah, this working short staffed is getting old. I'm starting to listen when people ask me if I want a job on their unit when I get floated.

The first although obviously it was in nicer terms than "you're getting a promotion". From my understanding I'm going from Software Engineer 1 to Software Engineer 2, which isn't a significant change in the work I'll be doing. It's pretty cool though because then I'm only two rungs away from Technical Leader, which is what the senior hard-working guys (and women) are at who are middle-aged with a family and kids.

I'm going from Senior Technical Analyst to unemployed once this contract is up.

Spending twenty bucks on a rodent for a kid's birthday and having it die suddenly and inexplicably 3 days later while they are at school is really not cool.

You know, you don't get to keep those Mickey Mouse guys you rent for parties. They're actually just humans in suits, and you have to feed them...

I feel like my life has been in a holding pattern for the last 14 years. Now that its moving forward again, I'm impatient for it to actually reach the line of scrimmage.

And I love mixed metaphors

If you've only got maybe 15-30 minutes' worth of work for me to do each day, why the hell do you keep extending my contract?

When Harry Met Sally is a really good movie. This shall require a permanent purchase.

OMG. Yes, I am sure you are thrilled you are pregnant with your first child, but do you absolutely need to post a new pregnant mommy pose picture to your Facebook page every week?

STOP IT!

An idiot with more money than sense?? ;)

(I don't now, nor ever will own an iPhone nor any other kind of "smart phone" until my old Nokia dies completely. It's a phone FFS and that's all I use it for...I have other ways of getting info when needed.)

The 3gs is only $49 bucks. Its not *that* huge an expense.

However, 10 is a bit young.

My boss's 4-year-old son knows his way around an iPad and an iPhone better than most adults.

Question: would you buy a 10-year-old a Nintendo DS?

At this point, iOS is proficient enough in the gaming arena to make it a cheaper, better gaming handheld than Nintendo's or Sony's offerings (with the added bonuses of better battery life and not having to keep up with game cards). Add to that the ability to keep track of the kid through the tracking feature (or simply by virtue of having a cell phone), and it's a good expense, particularly, like Mus says, the $50 3GS.

Nintendo is in some pretty deep crap if they don't create a new gaming paradigm to compete with the iOS/Android platforms.
