Yay more familiar names!
It's been a crazy past few years for sure. Where to even begin?
I spent my entire life dreaming of making magic at Disney where I envisioned all of the little workers dressed as fairy princesses waving wands while the brooms and mice gracefully pranced around doing their bidding. I assure you this is very much
not the case.
The coolest thing about working at Disney was saying "I work at Disney" and that's about where the cool pretty much ended. During that time the company was experiencing a lot of growing pains shifting from Michael Eisner's Disney of the 1980's and 1990s to Bob Iger and John Lasseter's new Disney. Buying Pixar was still a rumor and the 3D department totally bombed with Chicken Little. Bob decided to do away with the overseas studios, and eventually the Florida studio (which was HUGELY instrumental in the animated films from 1989-1994). He also brought all of the Glendale facility production crews back over to the "hat" building in Burbank, which was kinda sad for me because that's where most of The Little Mermaid was animated. I did end up getting to know Alan Menken and Jodi Benson, which was the total highlight of my time at the studio! At the time he was just starting to work on the soundtrack for "Enchanted" which was also really cute!! blah blah blah SORRY! I'm rambling! Short but sweet version: There were a bunch of studio cutbacks and I got laid off. Boohoo. I still love Disney movies more than anything! It just was not a totally shining moment.
The happy news is that shortly after I was offered as position at Dreamworks Animation which turned out to be AMAZING!! It was a much smaller (and totally gorgeous) studio so everybody really got to be family. Disney is such an insanely huge company, like I can't even begin to verbally paint how enormous it is. Dreamworks was a very close-knit environment. I even got to dunk Jeffrey Katzenberg into the water tank at the company carnival! Woohoo! Fun times for sure!!
After Flushed Away and Bee Movie (Yes I'm sorry those exist) I joined a smaller marketing company where I am now completely happy and loving life. It's been a rollercoaster but I'm still alive!
I just totally talked your ears off.
