Can't you collect stuff that won't give someone a hernia?

Fail, LK ... Fail.

The seals need to be replaced, the coils need some serious cleaning, and the external surface needs refinishing to get rid of all that rust. It would take more to make serviceable than it would cost to buy a new refrigerator.

 In case you haven't noticed, I LOVE things from the 50s....things back then were well made, and, very heavy. :D

Stop being practical and old-fartish and look at this from a "hey working vintage man-cave item for less than $40!" or "Oooo I can easily double my money on this one from selling as-is...." point of view.

Yeah... unless you're opening a 1950's themed dinner, I'm with Khross on this one. What the **** are you planning on doing with it? Nitefox needs to restrict your access to craigslist.

I did exactly as you suggested, because I'm very, very fond of the Frigidaire in my cave. Consequently, I determined that the level of investment required (labor, time, and money) to make it useful was too much.

LK:

It's a neat item and a great find; and while that item is repairable and has collector's value, it is not something you and Nitefox can afford to take on at the moment. It is a pure luxury, and while I have no doubt that there is space for luxuries in y'all's budget; there isn't space for THAT refrigerator.

No, no garage. Just a screened in porch.

You can store your encyclopedias in it.

Hmm...I was gonna suggest you do what we did with our second fridge when I was growing up, and just keep it on the back porch. Conversely, you could keep it in the garage (like we do with our upright freezer).

Really would only be handy if you stock up on a buncha stuff, though. We have stores of venison from Dad hunting, etc., which is where it really shines.

Awesome find, though. :)

I guess we can store a lot of the other junk that is on the porch in it.

Good Lord woman, I'd better not hear the Fred Sanford theme song when I pull in the drive.

Yeah. It would weigh them down enough to get them to the bottom of nearest river.

While not entirely uncool, I have to go with "fail". I shudder to think how much power that thing sucks down, especially on a screened-in porch in Mississippi, November or not.

My sister and her husband have one similar to that but they got it free with the house they bought and they live in Delaware, not MS. I think they also make a little more money than you guys.

I'm gonna have to agree with /FAIL on this one for the reasons Khross mentioned.

I'm actually in the market for something like that to put in my basement workshop.

In fact, if you want to refurbish it, including a refin, new seals, a functioning compressor, and send it here to me, I'll give you $50 for it =)

Ha! I'll trade you, as-is, for a custom-made, Midgen guitar.

That's no good guys, sorry.

Fairly certain this was our a first indication the decision to purchase was unilateral.

I'm hugely amuzed by the idea that Nitefox is groaning at LK unilaterally purchasing aging mancave items in a poor state of repair.
