Randomized filter with descriptive non-expletive words!

How about replacing profanity with even worse profanity?

Actually, I like Dalantia's idea.

I second (or is it third?) Dal's idea. I can see how that would be time consuming, so alternatively, asterisks would be fine by me.

Asterisks serve their purpose, so why change it? I would imagine it's really up to the admin if he wants to set it up or if he'd rather not bother.

I picked other...it does not matter to me. It seems like a lot of work maintaining this home for us and I hate to add one more thing to mess with.
Although, I gotta admit that Dalantia's idea sounds rather fun.

Please note that someone else will be responsible for providing me a map of curse words to slang (Firefly or otherwise), so the load on me inserting them into the language filter is minute. That should not be a factor in the decision (unless everyone is too lazy to make up a map of curse words to slang).

My only thought is we're all(supposed to be) adults. Is a language filter truly necessary.
I just don't believe that profanity is needed to make a point.

There have been incidents in the past that have gotten people locked out of forums when browsing from behind their work connections. So from that standpoint, I would say put it in. Can't be the reason people can't goof off, you know.

There's no point in not having one; the setting is user-level and can easily be switched on or off.

I know that my work has absolutely no problem with browsing or foul language, but as others have stated, their work does monitor such things. It's a small, non-mandatory addition to the board that seems to aid a number of members.

If we are going to use TV show slang for the F-bomb perhaps instead of Firefly we could use BSG with a little Farscape tossed in.

Somewhat appropriately, since I appear to be part of the catalyst for the poll in the first place, I voted for Firefly cussin' words. They're colorful without being recognizably vulgar, and it's nice to have an idea as to what the original words were before they got hit by the filter. A string of asterisks sometimes ruins the flow, you know?

did B5 have slang for their curses? I personally think we should call the f-bomb 'spoo'...

again, I honestly dop not care, I have switched off the filter.

Can we make our points without profanity? We certainly can. That doesn't mean we always will. However, there's no reason not to have a language filter for people who browse at work. And we should probably use something other than Firefly slang. It was cute for a while when it was Farsky's board and he was in charge of mapping the language filter, but we should go outside the Firefly universe. I don't want to be hearing Jayne's voice every time the language filter kicks in.

I voted Firefly, but as I abhor language filters, I'll be turning it off.

That's the Shepherd Book filter.

Mal's or Kaylee's voices are fine, too.

I went with the Firefly slang. Because it's Firefly and the Glade here turned me onto to it so it just seems appropriate.
