Chihuahuas are evil and overbred dogs. Please, please don't get one. They're one of the most aggressive breeds, for all they're tiny.

Kate,

You need a chihuahua like you need an old antique refrigerator and an incomplete set of 1950's era encyclopedias... :p

Nitefox, I side with you in this. Not because I don't think your lovely wife deserves to get everything she wants, but because chihuahuas are vile. Stand firm.

I wasn't exactly trying to. 6 years working as a vet's assistant gave me a very strong dislike for chihuahuas and miniature poodles. Some of the most vicious dogs you'll meet, on the whole, just not often publicized as such because they don't do a lot of damage.

If you want a small dog, get a Corgi. They're trainable, loyal, and adorable. And quite gentle and generally good with kids.

This thread is full of wisdom.

Chihuahuas suck. Mom had one for years, and it was the worst dog ever.

You guys are all way too mature, responsible, realistic and logical.
Everyone take a break, have a few shots, and come back when you're wasted and tell NF to let me have a chihuahua.
Yay!! :D

In a marriage, it takes 2 yes's to make a yes, but only one no to make a no.

Kate...

No.

What you need if you must have another dog which it sounds like you don't is a nice lounge dog. Just because a small dog doesn't take up much room space wise they tend to be more hyper. You need something like a Great Dane :D or even a St Bernard.

Which at least might devour the other two dogs and lead to a net savings in dog chow.

You know, I've got to ask, even though the thread seems to be mainly tongue-in-cheek...

What's with all the impulse purchasing lately? Incomplete encyclopedias, a refrigerator that looks like it came from the galley of a WWII battleship and now.. a chihuahua? I thought you guys were tight on money?

How about volunteering at the local animal shelter instead?

The encyclopedias were free, DE. The refrigerator was an impulse buy, yes, but $35 didn't seem like a huge deal. And I haven't bought a chihuahua, nor am I going to, although I may whine about it for awhile.
The truth is, that I miss my babies and I'm really having a tough time with having 3 babies in the cemetary and seeing babies and pregnant women everywhere...it's always worse around the holidays, and this time of year is the anniversaries of the deaths of the first two. I'm just trying to feel better because I'm really sad...and I don't smoke, drink, or do anything else that would really "take the edge off" the grief.

:(

I hear that Danes are among the best apartment dogs because they are mellow and low-maintenance. Rescue greyhounds are awesome, too.

That is true for the most part, unless it is one I pick out  our current one and the one before have been super high energy. The people at daycare are always amazed, they have 3 Danes and they all sleep all day at daycare but Winnie plays ALL day long non stop. If she doesn't go she bounces off the walls at home until we take her.

I'm sorry to hear that, LK. I hope you can find something to make you feel better.

Eh, it is what it is. I don't suppose impulse buying of cute furry stuff will make it go away. ;)
Thanks though.
