Kate,

You went from a good model phone to a questionable mid level phone. Android is awesome, I enjoy my Samasung Galaxy S 4G (Vibrant). Some of the screens (per my old carrier) suck without a screen protector on it.

The Galaxy S line is a decent line of phones.

I assume you mean when I went from the iPhone 3G to the Impulse 4G, right?

So how do you feel about the new phone? I know it's a Galaxy S and not S II but they were still regarded as being pretty good when they came out if I recall.

The only android phones really worth owning IMO are the Galaxy S II models.

I'm loving the HTC Evo 4g. Huge real-estate.

Can't argue with that, I can't go back to a < 4in. screen.

So far, it's loads better than the Impulse 4G....gimme a few days and I'll give an accurate review. I'm still irritated by the last phone and missing the iPhone. There are some features that I like, the notification menu bar and the nifty little puzzle pieces that pop up when I get a text message.

Ok, the only real complaint I have about this phone is charging it....the port is at the top of the phone, which is awkward, and it does not seat well. As in, if I plug the phone in to charge it, I cannot move it or the cord at all or it will come loose slightly and stop charging...it's a real pain in the butt. I can't do anything on my phone while it's plugged in.

More bugs:
Sometimes the phone gets stuck on the camera and it doesn't matter what button I press, I can't get out of the camera and have to shut the phone off.
Sometimes I'll press the 'Messaging' icon and it will take me straight to pyramid solitaire, tetris, or some other game app on my phone....closing it out and trying it again doesn't work, I have to reboot the phone.
On some games, all of a sudden the volume control on the side of the phone will only do "ringer volume" and will not do "media volume." I have to close that game, go to another game, turn down the media volume, and go back to the previous game.
Now, my phone is recognizing that it is hooked up to the computer, but the computer is not recognizing the phone.

So far, Androids are a pain in the ***. They have some neat features, but, overall, they are a pain in the ***.

**Edit: Rebooted phone, rebooted computer...computer is recognizing everything else, just not my phone. Don't tell me I'm going to have to take this POS back as well. ****!!!! :psyduck:

**Edit, edit: Now the phone isn't recognizing the computer either. FML. Whoever suggested an android can go suck a donkey. Never, ever, ever, again.

Phone not being recognized on the other computer either...wth. Can't believe I'm going to have to go back to the store AGAIN with a defunct phone.

Shapewriter!!! I found you!!!

The greatest keyboard I've ever used on an android device has been Shapewriter. I mentioned it here a few years ago. It's one of those keyboards similar to Swype (it was actually developed before swype). If you've never gotten used to one, you are missing out. Far more efficient and speedy to type on them.

Unfortunately, it was a great app that was discontinued and the makers of the app unlocked the full version for all users before they did. And I made sure I kept the APK all this time, so that no matter how many times I rooted and modded my phone, I continued to have Shapewriter.

Alas, with my Nexus Prime (I mean... Galaxy Nexus... lame name-change), the higher resolution and bigger screen made Shapewriter's locked, default view much more difficult to use. I was saddened that I had to resort to another sliding keyboard. But, there is no Swype availability on the GNex (they won't even let you sign up for beta with this phone). And SlideIT? What a joke. It works... kinda. But any app that will not auto-space after single-letter words is no app of mine. Besides that, I've used Swype on my wife's phone. It's fine, but it's word prediction and correction isn't nearly as good as Shapewriter's.

Then I stumbled upon someone mentioning that Shapewriter was bought and incorporated into the FlexT9 keyboard by Nuance. I looked at it in the marketplace... started reading some reviews. Saw one that said it worked great on his GNex.... There was no free version to try, so I shrugged and paid the 4.99 on a gamble.

It's a different skin, but it's Shapewriter (with a few more options, even)! And, it fits my GNex screen! I showed this to a coworker who also misses Shapewriter and begrudgingly has accepted Swype. After letting him try it out a few minutes, his eyes lit up too. There was just something better about Shapewriter. It was just overall a better keyboard experience.

I am glad that it's back and better than ever.

Just made the switch from a 3GS and I'm never going back. I got a Galaxy S2 for Christmas though I was going to get myself the Skyrocket so only a 4.3" screen, 1.2 dual core and (worst) no 4G LTE which demoed insanely fast at the at&t store.

Android has come a long way since AT&T only (ignorantly) carried the Motorola Backflip as their sole Android offering.

So I've never liked Swype. As you can see from my previous post two posts up that is certainly the case. But as I was going to post in another thread on another board about how much I dislike Swype and prefer shapewriter/flex T9, I found I couldn't find the app store link anymore.

It turns out the company who bought shapewriter and incorporated the software into their own also bought Swype. So the Swype beta I am using is actually shapewriter/flext9 with the Swype brand name slapped onto the box.

I went from "Swype sucks ***!" to "Swype kicks ***!"in the space of 5 minutes.
