I uh...need an answer quickly on this. Lives may depend on it.

Absolutely....ummm maybe.

But Batman could because he comes prepared.

Probably.

My question is: when did The Juggernaut first start?

Only until he tore his spinal cord free. So, at best, it would be hanging by a flap when he paralyzed himself. What the ****?

As Superman couldn't tear of Zod's head, the answer must be no.

I think you're neglecting momentum, though. Newton's First Law dictates that his arms will keep moving even after he becomes paralyzed. If he can impart enough momentum to his arms before that point, the follow-through might be enough to take his head clean off.

Interesting point, but I'm not that familiar with the Superman universe. Zod was a Kryptonian, right? What were the circumstances of the attempt? And do we know that all Kryptonians posses the same base strength?

I say no, because while Superman has increased strength (when compared to humans), his increased durability is proportional to that. Ergo, he couldn't tear off his own head any more than a really strong human could do the same to himself.

At least, that's the logic that makes sense to me right now. I'm kinda tired.

And I agree with your logic. We can't say for sure, as we don't know exactly how much his strength increased, or how much his durability increased, but it makes sense that it was a proportional increase. So he would have as much luck tearing off his head, as an everyday well conditioned man would (i.e. not much).

Didn't Superman cut his own skin with his fingernail?

I'm not sure of the relevance. I've accidentally gouged myself with my fingernails in the past, and have never felt the need to intentionally try it, but I suspect I could accomplish the feat.

Nope. Assuming his offensive (rip his own head off) and defensive (head firmly attached) abilities scale relatively the same as for us mere mortals, Supes couldn't tear off his own head any more than I could tear off mine.

EDIT: I just noticed Farsky already posted this incredible feat of mental prowess.

Yeah, but have you ever really tried to rip your head off? I mean, I suspect you could do it!

Odds are, in order to get the proper leverage to rip your own head off, just using your hands. You would choke yourself out before you managed to do it. You might be able to break your own neck though, leave you paralized from the neck down for the rest of your life. How much fun would that be?

No.

Superman's durability is nearly limitless while his arm strength appears to be more finite. Superman seems to survive large explosions but his punch strength is a bit more limited than that.

Rori's logic appeals to me. Think of all the things Kal-El has been hit with over the years, he's only been killed once I know of.

Of course, if he were using tools made of appropriately colored and hard enough Kryptonite, he might be able to cut his own head off.

He would never be able to do it psychologically though. He's a damn hero's hero. Killing himself would be forbidden by his code, just as killing anyone is normally. He would always work to find another way.

I'm changing my answer to no since it seems to be limited to him acting on himself.

I was more thinking of him flying into a brown dwarf with his head at an angle to shear it off.

It's a comic book, so he can do anything the current writer says he can. It's impossible to gauge his strength vs durability because they vary so widely. Sometimes lifting a 747 is tough for him, sometimes he's strong enough to destroy the earth in one punch. The same goes for his durability.
