There's a lot of difference between telling a friend an unwelcome truth and just kicking someone when they're down.

I don't see how anything Michael said was even the slightest bit constructive. Constructive things are not necessarily pleasant or agreeable; That's understood. But there was no "I think you should do x..." or even "I think you should stop doing y...". It was just, "here's some painful and embarrassing things about your life right now. In conclusion, you are less of man. P.S. You must have psychological issues. I can tell from the ponies, and from having quite a few armchair psychiatry sessions in the past".

I'm debating whether I should really say anything more. Quite honestly, you hit a major nerve with me, and perhaps it would be better if I just kept my mouth shut.

I'm just going to point out that I've been through a lot of really painful, embarrassing, and just plain dark stuff in my life, and I've been fortunate that things are finally starting to look better. I've learned a lot of things, but perhaps one of the most important is that you can take the facts of a person's life and string them together into many different narratives. It's really easy to convince yourself that a given narrative is true because it's based on truthful facts. I've spent a lot of sweat, blood, and tears being dragged down by just exactly that kind of "loser narrative". So, yeah ... it kind of pisses me off. But much more importantly than that, I speak from personal experience when I say, "this is not helping".

See, I get what you're saying, but I totally didn't take it that way. I genuinely like the Moose, but I'm fairly concerned for him. Whenever someone I respect has something like that to say to me, I've always tried to reevaluate, and its served me well. Maybe its a difference in personality. I've never know Michael to be mean, so I took it as a constructive offering.

That said, Arafys, you'll pull out of this, and I'm pulling for you. I'm sorry that my part in the offerings weren't taken as intended.

As much as this pains me...

Yo, its cool man. Love and toleration and all that. Its been a rather dark few weeks for me, hell, its been a rather dark year with the exception of one, maybe two very bright spots.

Micheal, I understand you may be in a foul mood and things may not be the brightest for you right now. I would like to think that, your post was meant to be observational, as Rynar says. I am the Queen of sensitivity and taking Internet comments wrong, I've been told that many times. I'm still learning. But, a simple PM would have been far more constructive than a post. With that said, hugs Micheal, and I hope your mood gets better. I enjoy the smiley Micheal.

That's... pretty harsh. :(

Nah. Knowing Micheal, not meant to be harsh at all, just a friendly peckerish jab. If we were all sitting around a few shots of tequila, we'd laugh at that crack and you'd fire one back at him and we'd all be looking for hot chicks. Eez all good, bro.

Moose you are losing inches aren't you? That right there makes you a "loser", but a good kind of loser. :)

Hang loose Mr. Moose...things will get better sooner or later. :)

I was rather surprised that Ara didn't fire back at him here, glass houses and all. Respect.

A lot of things can depend on someone's mood...I know when I've been in a good mood, I've taken jabs and given them and walked away from the computer laughing. On a bad day, an innocuous comment can bring me to tears. I try to take other Gladers long-term reputations into consideration on posts that I'm confused about...it helps when I'm feeling down to not take things so personally.

To be fair, that was pretty much the definition of 'personal,' though.

Curious to hear back from Micheal as to the impetus for such uncharacteristic postings.

Also, those were his last two posts and it has been about a whole day since. Also very uncharacteristic of him.

They aren't uncharacteristic, although very uncommon.

I thought the entire thing was tongue-in-cheek from the beginning, just because of the comments about the ponies and the man card. Granted, it was rather rough even for tongue-in-cheek, but it didn't seem like it was intended as some sort of brutal personal insult.

That wasn't the part I took umbrage to. The personal life stuff was.

Well I figured that, but the two of them seemed to be intertwined into a whole, so I thought the personal stuff was meant in a less than serious way, even if it was rather tasteless.

Are you trying to say I somehow did something (i.e. the same insults basically when I was dissing your Holden Monaro) with more tact than Micheal? I dunno man ...

Those ponies ...

I don't recall the personal life stuff when you were talking about the Monaro.

Man, I certainly took a dig at the "livin' with Mom" thing, but ... anyways ...

It's all good.

Living with your parents saves a lot of money. It's not necessarily a bad thing. People complain about $5/month for Netflix, but they're willing to fork over a thousand per month for rent.

But it costs your parents money which they should be allocating elsewhere at this stage of their lives. As such, it demonstrates a lack of maturity and a penchant for selfish behavior unbecoming someone who wishes the world to consider them to be a mature adult.

If your parents like you around, then it is actually benefitting their lives. I agree there are some costs with heat, electricity, and so on but they are relatively minimal.

Except I'm actually paying rent to live here, and not just a token amount either. I could just about afford a shitty apartment for what I'm giving mom. But that wouldn't make a lot of financial sense to do.
