So we're gonna go assault the Lich King's stronghold. Hooray! Emo punk needs to die. Thing is though, he's a threat to both factions yes? So why are the Horde and Alliance *fighting* each other on the way to kick his ***?

Also, Tirion is starting to piss me off. The whole coliseum idea just irks me.

Quote:
Highlord Tirion Fordring: A shallow and tragic victory. We are weaker as a whole from the losses suffered today. Who but the Lich King could benefit from such foolishness? Great warriors have lost their lives. And for what? The true threat looms ahead - the Lich King awaits us all in death.

YOU WERE THE ONE THAT ALLOWED THIS FARCE! Jackass.

He may have been emo as Arthas but now that he fused w/ Ner'Zhul to become the Lich King, he is straight up more metal than even Nathan Explosion can describe.

Tirion didn't allow the Faction Champions fight. At least in the Horde version of things, Garrosh gets pissy (surprise surprise) at the Alliance warlock who just (inadvertently) summoned Jaraxxus on the Horde team. He starts talking and Alliance people in the stands jump down to fight us at Varian's urging? Something like that. It certainly wasn't a planned event on the Argent Crusade's part, though.

Still, the whole concept seems kinda silly to me. I guess there's some glimmer of a point to testing the champions fighting alongside the Argent Crusade when we all finally march on Icecrown, but I'm not so sure I see the point of killing would-be allies for it. "Kill or be killed, champions!" says Tirion. Well gee, I hope you're happy thinking back on that sentiment when you finally enter Icecrown Citadel WITHOUT me and my guild after we were murdered in unspeakable ways by Gormok the Impaler. Maybe we wouldn't have been as useful to you as the people that did kill Gormok, but I'm pretty sure we could've done a whole lot of helping!

Maybe they're working on the lore premise that seems to be the case for every other raid: that we never die. We did kill the beasts of Northrend on our 9th try... I guess it was only those other nameless guys who were killed. The 8 attempts previous never happened. :p

I'm really not too fond of Garrosh, either. We're not supposed to like Garrosh. I get that. He's a standard heel sort of character for now. But is there a point where writers can make you hate a character so much that it goes beyond heel status? :( Him and Varian are ridiculous as of now.

Wrynn, Jaina and Tirion outside the Coliseum wrote:
King Varian Wrynn says: Tirion.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: King Varian, Lady Jaina. Welcome to the tournament. Your place in the coliseum is waiting.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: Thank you. It's the least I can do to support this; we need to stand together.
King Varian Wrynn says: You ask much of me, Tirion, to sit and watch, trusting the savages to keep themselves in check.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: My people are here to ensure that they honor the rules of engagement. It will do your subjects well to see you in the stands.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: I'm sure Thrall will have his people under control...
King Varian Wrynn says: Perhaps. I doubt the effectiveness of this gambit. We would be better served preparing our armies for the final assault.
King Varian Wrynn says: But if my presence is required in these games to gain your support in the battle, then I will remain. For now.
Highlord Tirion Fordring nods and gestures for his guests to follow.

Thrall, Garrosh and Tirion outside the Coliseum wrote:
Thrall says: Garrosh, I expect you to control yourself here. I do not want a repeat of the Violet Citadel.
Garrosh Hellscream says: Pah! That was a show of strength worthy of a leader. I only regret I did not kill that human before the mage interfered.
Thrall says: We are guests here, Garrosh, and you will conduct yourself honorably.
Garrosh Hellscream says: What honor is there in thrashing about with blunted sticks? This is a waste of time.
Thrall and Garrosh walk up to meet Tirion Fordring.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: Welcome, Warchief Thrall. Overlord Hellscream.
Thrall says: Thank you for the invitation, Lord Fordring. We look forward to observing these games.
Garrosh Hellscream says: Speak for yourself, Thrall.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: I hope you'll see the merits of these events in time, Garrosh. We cannot win against the Scourge if we continue to war against one another.
Thrall says: Wise words.
Garrosh Hellscream says: Words of a fool, you mean. The Horde will destroy the undead without your aid, human, or that of the pompous king.
Thrall says: Garrosh, enough!
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: Under my roof, gentlemen, I trust you will behave.
Thrall says: Of course, Tirion. I apologize for his outburst. It will not happen again.
Garrosh Hellscream says: Bah.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: If you will follow me, then.

Both Wrynn and Garrosh think the games are a waste of time, but for different reasons.

Why the hell is the King asking permission of one of his Highlords?

Wrynn has always had his head on backwards. Should stick to being King and lay off on trying to be Conan the Barbarian.

It's more than he's there as a guest, though.

Tirion is the head of the Argent Crusade and by extension head of the Order of the Silver Hand.

He was elevated by Alonsus Faol, whose grave you all have visited in passing.

Bolvar was a Knight of the Order of the Silver Hand, so Wrynn should respect Tirion for that reason.

He's allied with the death knights in a marriage of convenience and is more respected by them than Wrynn.

Also, as the head of all Alliance paladins, if Tirion wished to commit a coup against Wrynn, he's in a better position than any other Alliance leader.

Tyrande would be more likely to commit to a practice of isolationism, Bronzebeard has too scattered a power base and issues of succession to sort out, Velen is too new and has less loyalty, and gnomes rising up to claim the throne of Stormwind would have no support outside perhaps the Defias.

Garrosh Hellscream and Wrynn are both toolboxes. Every time I do ToC, Thrall gets a salute, and the other two get the finger. Every now and again, Jaina gets kisses.

Tirion is not beholden to Wrynn at all. The Knights of the Silver Hand were based out of Lordaeron, and therefore beholden to King Terenas Menethil. As that Kingdom no longer exists, and its only heir is Arthas himself, the Order of Paladins is now independant. King Wrynn has no more authority over Tirion than he would have over Thrall.

I'm starting to lose respect for Thrall for not putting Garrosh in his place. I hate Blizzard for doing this.

Like herding cats... I don't think the bloodlust of Mannoroth has truly left the orcs as a whole, and Thrall can't maintain control.

Doesn't matter, Thrall isn't going to be in charge much longer.. Once Cataclysm hits, Garrosh is the head honcho.

Yeah. Goddamn stupid. I want the option to play the game as part of whatever new faction Thrall and Jaina create. **** the Horde, **** the Alliance. Bunch of idiots.

I know Thrall is still leader at least at the start, because part of the goblins joining the horde involves Thrall's ship getting attacked by alliance, with the goblin ship getting in the crossfire, followed by Thrall getting captured. After that, you save Thrall and the goblins join the horde for it.

Thing is, Garrosh is an *idiot*. He doesn't have the vision to lead the horde. Wrynn isn't much better. Stormwind was better with the child in charge.

Who leads us into ICC? Is it Wrynn? Nooo, it's Jaina.

Sylvanus, actually, Horde-side. Which isn't entirely symmetrical...

The faction representative with most direct experience with Arthas leads the faction into ICC.

Jaina knew Arthas the prince and Sylvanas knew Arthas the monster.

Jaina leads a small but loyal contingent with some loyalty issues internally, while Sylvanas leads a small but loyal contingent whose loyalty issues were addressed rather forcefully.

Jaina and Sylvanas both have their own agenda and they both have weaker than most ties to the faction as a whole.

I'd say it's pretty good overall.

One of the coolest Horde quest lines in Burning Crusade was the one where Thrall eventually shows up in Nagrand to tell the story of how Grom Hellscream died a heroic death and redeemed himself to show Garrosh that he isn't doomed to become a raging asshat.

Then they go and turn Garrosh into a raging asshat. Way to screw up your questlines. Blizzard is full of ****.
