When I'd rather not type "1920x1080x60 hertz with true 32-bit color", as I am currently on one of those laptops. No Number pad :(

Oh, I support a MacBook purchase. I'm just throwin' stuff out there. :)

I'm afraid Dell's making a better product for less money, if the conversation remains OS neutral. That's really the problem here ...

I was going to buy a Macbook Pro; I ended up with 2 Laptops for less money, because I wasn't going to use the OS in the first place. By the by, both of my laptops have full 3 year warranties and accident protection. Dell Coupons can really be abused ...

Khross, I feel like you're focusing way too much on hardware horsepower. You also have a huge caveat in the form of OS indifference.

Everyone knows you can get more powerful windows laptops when compared to an Apple hardware in the same price range. That's always been the case. Doesn't change the fact that the Macbooks have unparalleled hardware quality when compared to other laptop manufacturers. My MBP is a thing of beauty, and I cringe whenever I need to use someone else's shitty laptop, regardless of OS.

I'm sort of playing Devil's Advocate to the "pro-Mac" crowd, at the moment. I'm not inherently opposed to a Macbook Pro; indeed, they used to be my go-to laptop, even over Sager for a lot of reasons. However, unless MacOS is the primary consideration in the purchase, I'm not sure they are a valid option right now.

If you want MacOS and will use it, buy an MBP and have fun with it.

If you want the most laptop you can get for your money, buy a Dell XPS 15z and save some cash.

I will agree that MBP's are mostly only worth it because of the OS/hardware integration. For example, the trackpad and its multitouch functions are unrivaled but unfortunately it returns to being a normal trackpad when in Windows.

I love the trackpad on my Mac. For example to go back on a webpage, I just swipe my fingers. It's so easy. I would really miss things like that if I switched to a PC.

The XPS 15z really is of the same build quality at the 15" MBPs. It's extremely well built. That's the only reason we're even having this discussion. Dell has basically produced a MBP for Windows at PC price points. And Cypress makes the trackpads for both; Apple has much better software than Cypress/Dell provide for Windows. Multi-finger gesture support still needs some work, but obvious advantages and necessity and all that ...

You apparently don't know much about Dell ...

I have a XPS 15z with 16gb of RAM, a Quad Core i7, a 256 gb SSD, and a full HD 300 nit 14.9" E-IPS LED backlit panel. With judicious use of coupons, I got this machine for $1650. I have an XPS 15z with 8gb of RAM, an i5, 750gb 7200 rpm 5.4" platter, and the same full HD panel ...

And that one cost me $700 after coupons.

Let me know when you can get any Macbook for comparable prices.

I think the article on Engadget was pretty spot on as a comparison.

Now, I personally factor in stuff like the jd powers satisfaction survey and consumer reports results at that point, but mileage starts varying pretty quickly I'd say.

It really doesn't, Taskiss; the question at this point is solely about software, because Dell actually has better hardware value for the money; and the machine is just as well built.

Why can't you buy the Dell and put OSX on it?

Because Apple doesn't make drivers, or make it easy for manufacturers to make drivers, for non-Apple hardware. (Peripherals being the exception)

I don't think anything has better hardware than a MacBook Air.

Not to mention it's technically against the terms of use for the OS.
