Khross, remember that argument with DE about the Oblivion leveling system and how nothing good came of it? I think it would be a safe rule to keep comments regarding gameplay and mod-able areas of the game outside the realm of "fact" and more in the realm of "I like to do this, do you?"

'buk never said it was a bug, just a tweak that he made use of to make the game more enjoyable from his POV.

I already know I won't finish it. I've restarted 3 times without getting past Whiterun. I've got side quests sending me to the other side of the world while other quests are sending me equally far in the other direction. I am quickly getting lost under piles of seemingly conflicting content, and simultaneously finding it difficult to resist the urge to just shoot difficult NPCs in the face. (Which I've done...right after saving the game.)

I do have to say, I'm impressed by the repacking job the πr8s did. 3.4GB ISO file, seamless install, hacked binary executable included in the install, there's nothing for the installer to do but simply mount the ISO as a drive (or burn the ISO to DVD), and follow the autorun prompts. Installation took about 2-3 minutes and there was nothing more to do.

You know you don't have to take every quest, right? Or, you know that you don't have a timeline for them, right? You can plot yourself a path around the world to complete them in linear fashion if you like.

I blame themepark MMOs for teaching us the opposite.

If I don't take a quest, that's a gear upgrade I'm not getting, and I'll hit a content wall and have to grind for my level.

Kind of refreshing to see something reject that paradigm. Perhaps I'll have to consider forgiving Bethesda for its past ES failures and give this one a shot.

The bear.

I'm still very early in the game but that's...disappointing to hear, and something I suspected might be the case. I'm sure there will be future mods to address the gimped dragons.

Yeah the physics engine isn't exactly state of the art, nor has it ever been from Bethesda. The examples that annoy me more are when I'm slowly approaching an item and I accidentally bump into it and it goes flying across the room and then I can't find it.

Sitting beside Phe, mucking around on the Kindle Fire while she gives Skyrim a spin.

Phe, whose character is now naked: "Ack! OK, so, for future reference: it doesn't segregate the clothes you're currently wearing when you sell things."

Yeah, the buy/sell interface takes a bit of getting used to. I've unintentionally purchased a couple of items.

Finally got my first house, starting to get the archery perks I like. I'm a bit of a completionist though and not being able to max out all my perks strikes me as something that's going to annoy me.

So is there a Glade consensus on this game? Worth the money?

Khross - the cap is level 81, period. It doesn't matter how you raise the skills, what race you pick, ect. You've way, WAY overthought this entire thing. It's hard capped at 81 and there is a set amount of exp per skill level up and if you max every skill to 100 you will hit 81 no matter how you gained those skills. You don't have to level up before you gain more either. You can sit there and gain 5 levels without hitting the level up button and you'll be able to go and get all 5 at once.

Gaining a skill level via useage, books, trainers, items, ect all give the same amount of level exp for that particular skill's level.

It's the single easiest to min-max ES game made. Every skill is also fairly easy to level except for Alchemy, which is kinda tedious.

The only min-maxing thing you have to think about in the slightest is if you want to use a trainer (you only get 5 trainer skill ups per level and they can't train you past 90).

I am also loving it, and I didn't make it through oblivion. They've fixed a lot of the things that annoyed me about that game.

So far, it looks like the best value for your gaming dollar this year. So, so, so much content.

I give it a thumbs up.

So much to do, so easy to get lost doing...whatever the hell you feel like doing at the moment.

I didnt make it through Oblivion either but I'm more than likely going to get this one. This and Battlefield 3 should get me through to SWTOR easily. Then Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 next year, oh em gee.

I think it probably is. I won't play it through, but I simply don't care for sandbox-style play in a single-player RPG, and shouldn't be construed as an opinion on the quality. While it has a horribly flawed interface, the game itself seems quite well done.

Making fun of companions. The "Dialog Bug" is definitely the one I've run into most often. Someone gets angry at me, and then out of the blue they're like "Oh, good to see you, do you need anything?"

Quote:
Our week-long celebration of stories inspired by players' journeys in the continent of Skyrim continues today, with Ronin the Jedi's account of the worst helper on the face of Nirn.

"Lydia move," Gavin Glass-beard roared, trying to fit through the door Lydia was standing in.

"But look at this ruin we are in! I wonder what's further down?" She exclaimed, excited about something. "This is as far as we can go, see that rock? It is blocking our way forward."

Lydia frowned but she didn't move, she just surveyed the room with her eyes. "Lydia, I swear to Talos if you do not move, I will make you carry all the dragon bone and scales again." Fear sprouted in her eyes and she moved aside quickly. To quickly in fact that she tripped over a switch. The switch opened the hole in the floor right under Gavin, he fell like a rock.

"Lydia what in Oblivion...." he said as he fell, Lydia just screamed in dismay, not knowing what to do, she just looked down the hole wondering how to get down, for if she tried to jump she might break something.

Gavin awoke after a few moments, his head was pounding, "What in blazes?" He proclaimed and remembered what had happened, "Lydia, you idiot! You made me fall down a hole." There was no answer, "Lydia?!" He screamed up towards the hole, it seems like he fell a good height, maybe a few floors down.

Gavin pulled out his two handed flame sword Fire's Pity and was off down a corridor, peeking around every corner. It had probably been decades since anyone had last step foot in these ruins, who knew what was down here. Around every corner was a new creature to slay, a skeever here, a Drugar there, finally he came across a room that looked promising, there was chests lining the walls, and at the end of the room was coffin with the lid off. Gavin slowly made it to the coffin and peered inside, what he saw astounded him, it was an old elven blade, it had runes etched into the blade and the hilt had gem stones in it. This had to be worth a small fortune, he thought to himself.

Gavin stuck his hand in and grabbed the blade, he looked it over a few times and smiled, his worries were over. Before he knew what was happening the sword flew from his hands back into the coffin, and a hand reached up and grasped the side of it and pulled itself up. What Gavin saw still haunts him to this day, A behemoth of a Drugar, and it looked angry. "By the 9 divine....I am screwed." As Gavin turned to run he bumped straight into Lydia, who had finally made it to him after 3 or 4 hours. They both fell to the floor. "Gavin I found you! I thought you had died or hurt something..." "Not now Lydia, RUN!" he screamed. They both jumped up and started to run but then the King Drugar let out a howl and lesser Drugars filled the room, surrounding Gavin and Lydia. Lydia pulled out the frost staff I had giving her and the ax named Hereafter off of her side. Gavin pulled out Fire's Pity and the battle began. Each enemy fell with ease and finally they took down the king, they acquired all the loot they could carry and made their way out of the ruin, when they got out Gavin sat on the ground and sighed with relief, "Thank the Divine we made it."

As he looked up Lydia was staring at the ruin, "Are you ok?" She turned with urgency in her eyes and said, "Look Gavin! There's a ruin. I wonder what could be inside?"

As he stared at her in disbelief, he sighed, "You, are an idiot" and a he continued to look at her she said nothing, and the fury took over and he used his power of the Dovahkiin, blasted her off the side of the mountain range the ruins had been on top of. He then started down the mountain, in search of a brighter companion.

The only thing I'm really missing in the interface is a search button for my inventory, and the ability to quickswap sets of armor/weapons/spell configs (more than 2).

Killed my first giants last night (two at a time). I had far more trouble with dragons than giants. Giants seemed more about positioning--finding a good vantage point and pouring on ranged damage while they tried to find a way to me. Dragons on the other hand, make that nearly impossible.

I'm sure giants are harder in the open field, but dragon's mobility and aerial attack means that high ground is useless.

I agree the LACK of ability to push companions out of the way is irritating.

Also picked up my first two levels of whirlwind shout. That one managed to save my butt a couple of times.

I do miss the ability to sort my inventory by weight, that is for sure.

I just repeated what Todd Howard said in an interview; take it up with him.

I installed some graphics mods for Skyrim today and it's looking fantastic.

FXAA Post-Processor, No More Blocky Faces, Detailed Faces, Detailed Bodies, Vurt's Skyrim Flora.

Also, some SkyrimPrefs.ini changes:
bTreesReceiveShadows=0 —> bTreesReceiveShadows=1
bDrawLandShadows=0 —> bDrawLandShadows=1

Increase your field of vision (PC):
Open console ( ` ), type 'fov 85' enter - 85 is my preference, you can find your own sweet spot.

Is that site an offshoot of tesnexus? Or did it just turn into that site?
