One of the things I want to do on the stress weekend is to see what I think of Commando healing, though.
I got both a Smuggler and a Trooper to level 10 and chose the Scoundrel and Commando paths, more for soloing flexibility than out of any interest in being a group healer. The notes I took from the single heal abilities they each gained indicate the Commando is a better healer. Slightly higher amount of healing with a lower tech ability. I'll probably go Gunslinger next time, though. My observation was that it's very easy in a solo situation to take more incoming damage during the heal ability's cast time than the heal will actually replenish. For solo work, it looks to me like the best thing to do is finish the fight and use the "rest" ability.

As a level 14 Scoundrel, I did pretty well in the Esseles, but when we tried to use a companion to tank the Hammer, I didn't get a heal off because I couldn't find them in the mess.

Pre-ordering is bullshit. I'll buy it when it comes out.

Except, it's not. By pre-ordering SWTOR, you get up to 5 days of early access. That's a pretty big deal in an MMO. You can get out of the early quest hubs long before everyone else logs in and starts clogging up the servers. Not to mention being able to reserve the name you want a lot easier than everyone else.

Except that SW:TOR has racked up nearly a million retail, North American preorders already. Adding in digital and international (and maybe also internet stores; I'm not sure whether ordering online from Gamestop, Amazon, and the like, are caught in the retail numbers cited), the smart money's on a pre-order pool of something like 2 million or higher.

So the early access pool might be even higher than the launch day pool. Of course, early access is staggered under Bioware's system, so unless it's 5x higher, it's probably still beneficial.

As I remarked above, though, the primary benefit is one of server stability, which ties into server count, which ties into long-term health. Spreading out the initial load can help keep the server count from ballooning just to handle the initial hits without forcing massive queues, which will stave off consolidations or ghosttown servers that much better.

They should show up under the owning player's name in the group window, for future reference.

Not sure how efficient a companion tank would be for a flashpoint, though.

Shel, while I like the idea of playing smuggler, I'm afraid I'm a little put off by the way they've been implemented. Dual pistols doesn't resonate Star Wars for me, personally (which is fine), and neither does throwing grenades and bacta bombs. It's a necessary evil, I suppose, but I'm gravitating to Commando as my first healing character simply because the grenades and healing probes more closely fits an acceptable representation of the source material for me.

How many of the abilities in the AC spec trees can be taken in all? As a commando for example. I understand they can DPS and heal. Do they need to DPS or heal to max or can both be maxed out? And what is the third tree in specialization?

In general, expect to go 31 in your primary tree and 10 elsewhere. The third tree is always DPS and is always shared. In essence, a base class has a DPS tree, and the subclass has a DPS and a tank/heal tree.

So, what are the system requirements looking like for this?

The wiki site seems to have really low requirements for a current game- 2.0 core 2 duo and a XT1800/7800 GPU. Are they really that low (trying to make the game accessible) or are they just understated?

Those are the official system reqs. I believe they're legit, I've seen forum posts of people getting it to physically run with less, albeit with reportedly unsatisfactory performance.

It's the WoW approach to engine design, dated 2011 instead of 2006 or whatever.

Yeah, 2 of everything, and then I think it's Odom who's still undecided.

I think everybody who's replied in the roles thread has tentatively declared tanks so far, though, so the roles probably aren't quite so evenly distributed. ;)

I'm undecided because I have LOVED every class I have played so far (6 of 8). If I were to hedge a guess, I would say Smuggler/Scoundrel.

Oh, I played at least 4 levels of everything Republic side in my weekend, Odom, and yeah, I didn't have anything that I just could. not. stand., either.

While I'm posting in this thread, does anybody know whether "Bartholomewlap" is somebody from around here? Or is it a random guy who stumbled across our prelaunch guild page and applied?

And, more generally -- if you're applying and your SW:TOR name isn't similar to your Glader name, drop a message in the Cheesepie thread on the SW:TOR prelaunch guild forum, or here to let me know.

I don't like the melee classes(JK/SW, Scoundrel/Operative or the Assassin/Shadow) but I've enjoyed everything else.

Admittedly, I'm *more* compulsive about refreshing the Glade itself. I'd have caught you before I went home from work, anyways. =)

Although, now that I look at this application... I'm having second thoughts. Stalker much? ;)

Not the best quality, but...I dunno. Tell me how it is. I might have to wait until I get my new computer next week for better quality.

Everyone get their invites? I see there is a high level character server we are encouraged to play on.

Not yet. There are some rumors that this weekend may be a dry run for their staggered early access, so the invites may be staggered, too, if that's the case.

I'm curious to see if there are any restrictions on the high level server (like only one character) -- it'd be interesting to play with the 3 healers and see which type I want to make my (first?) healer alt.

I'm pretty confident in my choice for Shadow, so I can probably ignore it and just learn it properly as I level instead of trying to do the crash course level 40 or whatever. ;)

Supposedly, we can use our characters from two weekends back, too; mine are on Bondar Crystal.

Update -- I was able to go directly to the tester page and RSVP.

So my guess is they're sending the emails out in waves to stagger site load.
