So I have a heart condition and I need to get out and walk 30 minutes a day and do things I enjoy to get out of the state of depression that comes with heart conditions and other reminders of mortality....

My husband has taken me to a nearby pay to fish lake the past two weekends, since I love fishing and the walk is good for me. Yesterday, they asked if we wanted to pay an extra dollar apiece to join the derby, which also entitled us to a drawing for a turkey. I said yes, we paid our 2 dollars, and went on to get skunked fishing for the day! This morning I got a call, and found out I won the draw for the turkey! It's a 20.92 pound bird, for just hubby and myself!! I already have a 15 pound bird in the freezer that I was going to cook for "just the two of us" for Thanksgiving!

So...save it for Christmas for "just the two of us" (don't imagine our kids will be coming home for the holidays :( ) and freeze the leftovers or give it to the food bank or just invite the neighbors (which I dont know that well) to Christmas supper?? Hmmm...we shipped 8 quarts of La Villa ravs to my stepson for their "Italian Thanksgiving" today...maybe they could use a 20.92 pound turkey for Christmas?? (La Villa ravs are to die for, by the way!! :D )

I invited my Canadian friend and his buddies for Christmas dinner, but I doubt that will happen...the cost of their plane tickets and hotel accomodations even outweigh the goodness of my homecooked turkey dinner, which is pretty damn good if I do say so myself!! :P

Anyway, just asking for your opinions or comments or just self invites for Christmas supper!! If I don't have room, I'll make room!! Just don't mind the clutter and mess!!

First thought, donate it to a local food closet. Donations are way down this year all over the country, a 20 pound bird would be loved and appreciated and would not go uneaten.

Take it to a local homeless shelter.

You got skunked, but won a turkey? It's obviously a sign that you need to go shark fishing out by the Farallons. Put a big meat hook in it and go trolling. :)

Or, take it to a shelter or food drive. How much do you like turkey, and how tight are things for you? There's only so much turkey I can eat in one season.

Maybe its a gift to get you out of your depression....I don't know if you go to church or not, but if you do, I'll bet there is a family there that would love to come over for a holiday meal. You could have company and be helping those less fortunate.
Or you could just donate the turkey somewhere. Micheal is right, it will definitely be appreciated.

Second Harvest Food Bank was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this turkey. They will be the recipients of this huge bird, along with my yearly holiday donation this week.

Micheal: Thank you for the reminder...my normal donation will be doubled this year.

Aethien: LOL last time I was outside the Farallons was on a whale watch tour about 30 years ago! If it wasn't for the goodness that is dramamine, I'd have been puking my guts out over the side of the boat (chumming for sharks?? :P ), rather than enjoying the variety of sea life we saw that day!

LadyKate: It certainly did get me out of my depression, and it's a gift that will keep on giving! I'm not a religious person and I don't go to church, but helping in my own small way to feed and clothe those less fortunate than me is definitely a good feeling.
