It's a long story, but I have a perfectly valid excuse for making it to the tender age of 31 without ever having had to roast a turkey.
That being said, there's no way out this year so HEEEELLLLLP!
(FWIW, I make an EXCELLENT roast chicken, but that's like 2lbs, haha, not 14!)
I have a 14lb Butterball turkey and I bought one of those roasting pans with the lids on them. I have a digital meat thermometer, and the Butterball website videos say to make sure the thigh is at 180 and the breast is at 170. For a 14lb turkey, the site says it will take approx. 4-4 1/2 hours to cook and to tent the turkey with foil after 2 1/2 hours to keep the breast from drying out.
Is this all correct? Do you season it in anyway? Do you rub crisco on it? Do you have to baste it? Butterball says you don't have to baste their turkeys, just rub oil on them before you cook them?
And stuffing....when I roast a chicken I usually stuff it with Mandarin orange quarters, fresh garlic, and onion...can I do this with the turkey as well?
