The Glade 4.0

So I put some frozen meatballs on the counter at about 4:30pm yesterday, and then forgot about them until about 8:30am this morning. So a total of 16 hours. The temperature in the house was between 72-75.

Still good, or trash?

Beef or Pork?

Its actually the Ikea meatballs (without the sauce, just the plain frozen meatballs), so beef.

Beef is usually better than pork and considering they were frozen when you put them on the counter and it was fairly cold it actually lowers the time when it was actually room temperature.

However considering they are meatballs (ususally there's other stuff in them) and not knowing the other ingredients, it would be safer to throw them out. If it was a pure beef chunk it would probably be alright.

However, unless the package ingredients list is read carefully, Swedish meatballs usually are a 50/50 blend of beef and pork. At least that is how I used to make them when I remembered how to cook.

Yeah, I think you are right...they have both pork and beef in them. And I think milk and egg as well. Guess I better dump them. Crud...still had half a bag left.

Ya know, in a case like this ... it's Swedish meatballs for breakfast, for me. They could be bad, but, I figure if you cook them right away, you're probably fine. You could probably refrigerate them after that and be OK. And, they're pre-cooked, right? So, even safer, really. Just think of how long stuff sits out at McDonalds.

I have OCD when it comes to things like this. I believe wholeheartedly that as soon as the clock peals the stroke of midnight of an expiration date, that the food itself becomes highly toxic. Some people say "When it doubt, throw it out." For me it's, "When in the slightest, tiniest, minuscule, shred of doubt; throw it out."

My wife is usually shocked to see me eating leftovers. It does happen. Sometimes.

Oddly enough, if a piece of food fell on the ground while camping or something it doesn't bother me to brush it off and eat it. Maybe it's just refrigerated foods that I have problems with.

Ikea makes meatballs? Damn, I don't trust any company that makes cheap furniture and meatballs. I guess what I'm trying to say is, their furniture doesn't say much for their meatballs.

Still good in my book, especially since they're frozen. Heck, even if they weren't, it's only 16 hours.

We're also pretty trash happy in our house. I'll brave it if it's a couple days past expiration (if it's something I really want) , but my wife will toss it immediately.

Why even brush it off? A little ground spice makes everything nice.

Did you get lost? I always get hopelessly lost unless I stare at the little line on the floor and don't deviate from it. My wife will go off somewhere and tell me to meet her at 'X'. I end up at 'F', and have to retrace my steps. Every time.

Or was it more the overall frenzy of the place?

(Their meatballs rock, by the way. Good breakfasts, too.)

Ikea meatballs are teh yum.. I wish the place wasn't on the other side of town, I'd go for the food more often. =)

I hate ikea because it's like a "Disneyland line" and a museum combined, only less fun. I could not stand the fact that once I was in the store I had to follow the "tour" all the way through. And that if you go with more than one woman (not to sound sexist) then moving through the "tour" is 4 times slower. And the stuff that you buy from there doesn't really seem like it's very high quality.

Now, if I lived in New York apartments where space is limited, I'd probably like ikea more. They have a lot of weird space-saving options. But just the way the store is laid out and how customers browse it.... bugs the crap out of me.

Once you go a couple times you realize that you don't have to follow the "tour", and that there are shortcuts to almost everywhere.

Also, going to ikea with multiple women? I'm pretty sure that rule works for going to ANY store with multiple women who like to shop, there will be no escape.

Much love for Ikea. Cheap furniture, admittedly not high quality, with innovative, modern designs and space-saving features. It's excellent for younger people and people who need to fill in furniture pieces here and there. I also love their freshly prepared swedish meatballs with ligonberry sauce. The salads are quite excellent as well. And even their food is cheap. I furnished about half my place with Ikea furniture.

As for the meatballs, I'd toss them if they're not frozen anymore. If they're somewhat frozen, you're probably okay.

Heh, my wife and I have a house full of Ikea stuff. We go for the real wood though, instead of the particle board crap. Maybe someday the majority of our furniture won't come to us in flat packs...

Ikea sell food over there? The most they do here is coffee (pretty bad ones). But I do like the place, it's got pretty new shiny thingys for cheap and i get to play with it before I place it somewhere. Kinda like Lego, but with screws.

Yeah, the one closest to me here in north Texas has a restaurant on the second floor, as well as a place between the registers and the exit to buy beverages and frozen stuff.
