Anyone else pick this up today? Me and a couple of friends purchased the 4 pack on Steam, so it only cost us $35 a piece. We played for a couple of hours tonite. Hella fun, but pretty darn intense. Most of the crescendo events force you to be mobile now. No more holding up in an place that's easy to defend. Some of the new weapons are pretty cool. And of course...

The. Chainsaw. ROCKS!!!

Love this weapon.

If anyone else on Steam has it, my ID is r0gue9. Hit me up sometime.

I was planning on getting it(360, though, since my friends play on the 360), but after playing the demo a bit...I dunno. I don't like the characters as much as the original cast. The soundtrack kinda pisses me off(I have no idea why...I just don't like it), and even the sound effects period seem wrong. Melee fatigue on campaign mode is a horrible idea. So, I've decided to pass on this title.

I really liked the first one and was planning on picking this up as well, but the demo also bored me, especially when it's up against Dragon Age and Borderlands for my gaming time (not to mention MW:2 now). Guess this one is getting skipped.

Little brother and his metaphorical homey will be getting it, and that's good enough for me.

...well, they will if they can get out of Modern Warfare, Borderlands, or Dragon Age.

I played for about 4 hours last night, and I have to say that melee fatigue was not an issue. The only time I got any sort of fatigue was when swinging something that I had to put away my weapon to carry with two hands, like propane tanks, oxygen tanks, etc. And even then, I could get 3-4 swings off in a row before having to stop. All of the regular melee weapons, including the chainsaw, I was able to use, nonstop, without any fatigue. I could swing them indefinitely. And this makes the katana extremely fun and effective. The chainsaw does have a limited amount of gas, after which, it becomes useless. But that's to be expected.

Speaking of the chainsaw. It's very, very satisfying when you kill things with it. Not only do you get the nice, chunky bits flying all over the place, but between the smoke that it generates, and the blood splattering on your screen, it becomes very difficult to see anything at all. I literally had to tell the guys playing with me over voice chat to tell me when it was safe to turn it off, because I couldn't see anything. Very cool.

The new weapons are a lot of fun. The grenade launcher and explosive rounds are very effective, but very easy to cause splash damage to you and your friends. The incendiary rounds were awesome, but very rare. Also, both explosive and incendiary rounds come in an ammo box that you have to carry (you "deploy" them for use on the ground, like an ammo pile), but it takes the place of your health pack. So it requires you to make some tough decisions. And the laser sights were a nice touch. Basically, they reduce the "spread" of your crosshairs, to make your currently equipped weapon more accurate.

As far as the demo, I wasn't too impressed with it, either. But the full game has been much more fun. We did the first 2 campaign settings last nite, and so far, I have to say that they picked the 2 worst maps of the bunch for the demo. All of the maps that I've encountered so far have been very fun, and extremely challenging. The "Carnival" campaign is INSANE. Don't play this one if you have a fear of clowns, LOL.

Just wondering what difficulty you play on that makes melee fatigue not an issue. Because we only play expert(will probably move to realism mode with L4D2 if we ever decide to pick it up).

Just tried all difficulties, and melee fatigue is NOT applied to regular swings with a melee weapon. You can swing those indefinitely. The only thing that causes fatigue is "pushing" them back with your alternate fire button. And that only comes after 5 pushes or more. This is with both melee weapons and ranged weapons.

That may change in Realism mode, though. I haven't had a chance to try that out yet. Me and one of my group-mates wanted to start out on Realism mode last nite (we play L4D together a lot on Advanced with little trouble, except when one of our AI-controlled team members does something incredibly stupid ), but 2 of our guys are much less experienced, so we decided to "warm up" on Normal. I'm glad we did, because we couldn't even get through the Roller Coaster race of the carnival campaign. That thing is brutal. They weren't kidding about the adaptive difficulty. We were doing pretty good at one point, so the director decided not to give us ANY weapon upgrades or ammo piles, and only 1 first aid kit besides the 4 we started with.

I don't know, maybe we just suck. But this one sure seems a whole lot more difficult than the first one or the demo did.

I gave into peer pressure and bought this today. While highly enjoyable, it isn't near the quality of the original. It's quite a bit more difficult, as well. Good lord.

Interesting. All of the reviews state that quality seems to be the largest improvement. They say that there's nothing too new about it other than the improved game quality and additional content, but that it worked out great.

Graphics are obviously better...but when I say quality, I mean the interaction between the survivors isn't as good, level design has seen no improvement(in some cases it has gotten worse, like the Hard Rain campaign, they add weather hazards that just adds frustration rather than actual challenge or fun), the endless hordes during the panic events are again, not an improvement to make things more challenging, but a frustration, especially when you have the zombies coming from where you need to go. I need to turn off the alarm, except there are millions of zombies coming out of the room where the alarm shutoff is, making it frustrating to get into the room, especially when you've been using all of your ammo up on the way there.

I also don't like the melee weapons. Boring. And they almost force them on you because double pistols and not even the magnum can stand up against the endless hordes after you run out of ammo for your primary.

And, like I said before, the new survivors just aren't as cool as the original cast.

Well, I have to disagree here. IMHO, the cast from the first one was not nearly as entertaining as this one is. It's really interesting to hear them struggling to figure out what's going on. They don't know what the special infected are called yet. They say things like "one of those pouncy things" and "one of those fat guys" instead of calling them Hunters or Boomers. It's neat to watch them learn and adapt along the way. Also, I really like how the personalities of the L4d2 crew come across. I really don't recall the level of interaction and conversation from the first one that you get in this one. Like Coach and Nick arguing over whether the military is going to save them or shoot them on sight.

As far as the level design, I REALLY liked Hard Rain. It was such a welcome change from the campaigns from the original. It was interesting to have to work your way back through the maps in the middle of the hurricane. It made for such an interesting map. Especially with all the witches around.

And I really love the melee combat. Obviously, I liked the chainsaw, but the other weapons were a lot of fun, too. The frying pan makes such a satisfying sound (as does the baseball bat) when you smack the zombies on the head. And its a really good way to conserve ammo for the really big fights. You can use an adrenaline shot, and switch to melee and cut through entire hordes of zombies by yourself. And I really like how the new ammo types and the defibrilator force you to choose between taking a first-aid kit for yourself and helping out the rest of the team.

And the weapons. Good lord, there are so many weapons now. You really have to think about your choices now, and which area of the map you are on. Some weapons are much better suited to certain areas than others. And you really have to be careful with weapons like the grenade launcher. It's not like other FPS'es where you just automatically want to pick the most powerful weapon. Sometimes, the grenade launcher can do more harm than good with it's splash damage. Or you can really struggle with its long reload time if there's tons of quick zombies around. I really like this aspect of the game.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion, and there will be many that enjoy the original much more than the second one. But I am really enjoying this one, and find it to be a vast improvement over the first.

I'm going to be playing this here in a minute.

How long, and how hard (that's what she said) is this game alone?

I've only done two single-player levels but it seems easy? All I do is run around with my sword and cut heads off. Also, the graphics leave something to be desired.

L4D2 on sale at $37.49 for the next 23 hours on Steam, down from $49.99. If you were on the fence before, it might push you over; I think it did for me. I think you can also get it for $30 from Gamestop.com, but that requires waiting for the shipping.

DLC incoming early 2010 and it sounds like it will be the greatest DLC ever imagined.

Read all about it here!

Also, I finally got Level a Charge(legit, even) tonight. Was pretty pleased with myself. Now, if I could only survive the **** bridge finale, I can get Still Something to Prove. Kinda pathetic that I got The Real Deal before Still Something to Prove.

That bridge finale is hard. I haven't tried it since failing miserably the first time. As for the new content, that sounds awesome. There goes the criticism that the old cast was better. Now we get both!

Yeah, it's the most difficult of the finales that we've found, but we just don't really play campaign much anymore because of how fun versus is. Love playing as the spitter. By far the best new special infected.

Got Strength in Numbers last night. So very happy we never have to go through that bullshit ever again. I swear to god, we'd either(very rarely) get a team that was leagues better than us that would kill us right outside the safe room, or we'd get a team that was so bad, we would get them right out of the safe room, only to have them leave the game. Late last night, we got a Japanese team that stuck through the whole way, even though we had x10 their score pretty much the entire game.

So very glad I'll never have to go through that ever again. Still need the Parish on expert though, lol.

I bought the Valve Super Pack ($100 marked down to $75 for almost every Valve Release ever).

Been playing L4D2 but TF2 and all the Source remakes intrigue me.

My nick is b0ssman, not sure how steam works, I quit CS during about the first 1.0 patch.

Who's still playing this if anyone? I find Versus to be insanely fun.

Using your zombie skills together is so awesome and rewarding.

I play every night. Of course, I have the 360 version, so that doesn't exactly help you.
