I challenge you to find any civilization that has existed without some form of control. It need not be laws. Religion, Tradition etc all serve. Without it, society cannot exist. Humans crave some form of security, otherwise we'd all be running around or hiding in holes like scared rodents.

Lord knows that if the tens of thousands of pages of regulations that the various forms of government employ in an attempt to "make me feel secure" suddenly disappeared, I'd head for the nearest rat-hole.

The poll is asking if I feel people need to be controlled. It doesn't ask if people need laws. I feel there must be some form of control, lest we fall prey to our baser instincts. That form of control need not be laws.

Considering impossible scenarios isn't the point of Rynar's post. He specifically asked people to regard it in the framework provided by the Heinlein quote i.e. the arena of "political tags".

No, these statements are different. There's a huge difference between wanting to be controlled and wanting others to be controlled.

Both the poll and his referenced quote are talking about "wanting people to be controlled." You are the only one referencing "wanting to be controlled." (minus the word "people.") Possibly you just read it wrong?

The government does not have tens or hundreds of thousands of pages of regulation to "make you feel secure"; they have them because hundreds of millions of Americans all have different opinions on what they want and the government tries to satisfy them all.
