My crew weren't the only ones, either. After years of use in the lab, many of the chips are worn and faded. It's hard to read the printing on them to determine what they are. We were instructed that any chip with fourteen pins should work. This was bad advice.
There was blue smoke being let out of the case, burnt electrical smells, and little pieces of plastic flying through the air and hitting the guy at the next lab station in the head. It was good times. Would do again! I could do without the frustration of rewiring the board three times, though.
