Wow, I thought I might have gotten in today, but apparently the last bit of pre-orders is just too much for today. They got to the 7th, it looks like. I can't imagine a whole lot of pre-orders were made between then and now. Yet, they've stopped for the day. I really can't believe this at all.

Wait, what? They cleared all the way to 12/7 and then stopped? I wonder how many pre-orders there were between then and now.

Also, don't discount that it's actually the date you *entered* the code. So the question isn't "How many people really pre-ordered after the 7th?", it's "I wonder if a lot of people thought they put in their code, or didn't realize they had to, and noticed at the last minute as they were checking and prepping everything that their account status didn't have a pre-order listed?"

Wow, damn.

So.. tomorrow the only person with physical media and a retail product key, can't install it yet. The irony makes me smile.

I got my email on my way to work this morning. :(

Anyway, finally got in and started making some characters on Ebon Hawk. Haven't done anything but log in with any of them, since I haven't had much time, but I wanted to go ahead and get the names reserved, at least.

Vallyn - Jedi Knight (will be my tank)
Caleria - Jedi Knight (dps)
Vellara - Jedi Consular
Kiernan - Smuggler

Hello again all -

We're finished with invite waves for today. The servers are filling up, player populations are growing, and we're monitoring the influx of players carefully. More servers will be opened up as we need them.

We're expecting queues, and at peak times you should be too. That's normal for a large-scale MMO launch, as the initial rush of players hit the servers at the same time. If you don't want to queue to play, it's best to try and login at non-peak hours - or possibly play on a different server. We understand the frustration that queuing can cause, and we're working to minimize, but a certain amount of queuing is to be expected during Early Game Access and launch.

Looking forward to tomorrow, I wanted to try and explain the invite 'pattern' you've seen this week. It can be confusing, because we've been inviting a growing number of people on a daily basis, but the timing of people's code redemptions might not seem to match.

It goes back to our pre-order redemption numbers. Our graph of redeemed pre-order codes looks like two mountains with a flat plain in-between, basically. There's a massive peak from back in July (when we announced pre-orders) and a smaller, but growing peak at the end (recently). In the middle, there was a long period where the numbers of people redeeming pre-order codes were steady, but lower.

Now, we've been inviting large numbers of people every day, with more being invited day-on-day. What that has meant is, because of the pattern of pre-order codes being redeemed, on Day One of Early Game Access, we invited a lot of people who had redeemed over a short span of time (late July). Yesterday and today, we invited a lot of people but over a larger span of time (all the way to early December).

The question I know a lot of you have is, why haven't we yet invited those who redeemed very recently? The answer is because of the volume of recent pre-orders that have been redeemed, which is spiking up very high. So, a lot of people have redeemed in a short period of time. Essentially we're in the same place we were on the 13th, where we invited a lot of people, but most had redeemed in the same short period of time.

TL;DR - We've seen a LOT of pre-orders redeemed in the last couple of weeks, and that means that even though we're really close (in date terms) to getting everyone in, we couldn't quite do it today.

Tomorrow's invite waves start at 8AM CST, and I'll start another thread then to track progress.

Wow.
First wave of the day went out, and I'm still not in. I've already played my way through The Force Unleashed 1&2, and discovered that my old copy of KOTOR is unplayable on my Win7 machine, even after performing several of the tweaks suggested on various sites. It's time for them to let me in, already.

First wave cut off on either 12/7 or 12/8.

Second wave, and I'm still out.

The first couple of days were easy. I totally didn't expect to get in. Yesterday was mildly disappointing, as I was kind of hopeful but didn't have any real expectations. Today's not so easy. I keep expecting to be in the next wave and they keep letting me down.

edit : Three down
edit 2 : And I'm in :)

KOTOR is playable on Win7. Friend of mine had to do several things to get it to work.

It's likely a pain, but it is possible.

Huh. I've never had a problem. I play/bought my copy through Steam though. Maybe if you add it to Steam.

Neither am I.

Not that there are many servers better off.

It's natural for launching MMOs. MMO launches cause people to alter their play patterns for a few weeks. You can't design around that, no matter how hard you try. Your three options are: suffer server overload and instability so they crash frequently and nobody gets to play (the EQ method!); implement queues to prevent option 1; or open too many servers so that the irregular play patterns don't fill up them all, then have people complain and want to consolidate servers (with all the naming hassles and stigma that entails) later when the play patterns stabilize.

Note that option 3 has to be done before launch, otherwise it's trying to close the gate after the cows have already stampeded out. Once you let part of a guild in to some servers, all the rest of the guild members will want in on that server, whether it's got a 3 hour queue and you open twelve empty servers or not.

I'm sure I didn't try everything, but I tried enough, and it failed badly enough, to make me pretty fed up with it all.

Adding it to Steam does nothing more than create a shortcut in my Steam library - so that wasn't any help. If I were willing to spend $10 to re-purchase the game via Steam, I'm sure that'd work just fine. I simply am not willing to re-purchase a game I already own and am not likely to ever play again. I was just Jonesing for some Star Wars while I was waiting to get into the EGA, and now I don't need it anymore :)

I fired SWTOR right up on my Boot Camped install of Windows 7. No problems.
