Just watched the first 2 episodes of Grimm, and would be checking out Once Upon a Time but what's available via OnDemand does not include the first few episodes.

This past Friday's episode of Grimm was one of the better ones so far. If they keep it going like this, I will be in until the bitter end.

Grimm is annoying me with the pacing. Clearly there is a conspiracy but they keep focusing on single story lines at the cost of making me stop caring. If I don't see something significant develop relatively soon then I am dumping it off my DVR.

We're really enjoying Once upon a time, it is 100% fluffy entertainment. Middle of the road on all counts, but entertaining.

We dropped OUaT after several episodes were watched and not a **** was given. We still watch Grimm...it's not held up its initial promise, but it's also not bad...I agree with Hopwin that they need to either **** or get off the pot about the mythology, though. Give us an arc or quit teasing it.

I'm fairly certain Once Upon A Time is on the permanent shit-list of every fan Little Miss Mary Sunshine has after last week's episode ...

You know, I felt the same way about OUaT at first Farsky, but once they finally got to the meat of the story and you can see that it isn't just another rehash of your childhood fairy tales it's gotten much better. But yeah, Grimm is hacking me off, maybe its partly due to the holiday disruptions, but I can help but feel they've gotten stuck in a rut.

The one thing that pisses me off about OUaT (which I actually think has an incredible story arc, now) is that I keep thinking Nicolas Rush needs to get back on the Destiny investigating the far reaches of the universe, and stop pretending to be Rumpelstiltskin.

This thread needs to be revisited, now.

Before these shows started, one might have assumed they were somehow similar -- after all, how different can two shows about fairytale creatures be?

These two shows, despite both having the occasional reference to Grimm's fairytales, have absolutely nothing in common.

Once Upon a Time is a continuous story arc. It's a drama -- no, it's several dramas. This show is, methodically, integrating every single Disney Fairytale into a single plot wherein the wicked Queen from Snow White has **** over the entire world of magic and faerie with a curse that brought them to our world and denied them their happy ending. It really is Disney-specific. While occasionally modified, these really are the Disney versions of characters from Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Beauty & the Beast, and i'm sure I missed some - with more being added every show. While the subject matter itself sounds child-oriented, it's not really a kids show. It has adult themes throughout. If it has a flaw, it's that I get the distinct impression that, like the reimagining of BSG, they're making it all up as they go along. This doesn't matter during the discovery phase, as they bring in all the plots and subplots. Where it will matter, if I'm right, is the resolution. Unless the writers have a definite plan already in place, whatever ending they come up with will feel contrived.

Grimm is anything but Disney. Grimm comes as close to "horror" as broadcast television really allows. Underneath its fairytale links is a decent detective show, and a sinister story-arc involving as-yet-undiscovered fairy-creature hierarchies and politics and plays for control over possibly the entire world. Grimm needs to delve deeper and faster into into these story-arc subplots, but each show is good on its own. Grimm has a far smaller (if expanding) cast of regulars, but they're characters I find myself caring about more because of how they're written, rather than Once Upon a Time, which relies on the recognition of the origins of a character to draw you in.

Of the two, I still prefer Grimm, but that's like saying I prefer a good scotch to a good milkshake. You don't drink them (or watch them) for the same reason.

Calling Grimm a horror show is extremely misleading. This is just another twist on the X-Files.

I enjoy both of these shows for what they are...pure entertainment. Some characters I love to hate and others I love to love. :D

I never liked OUaT, though Phe most definitely warmed to it and actively enjoys it now.

I struggle to maintain interest in Grimm...if they would work on the overarching story, it would be more bearable, but they keep dropping it for one-offs. I guess my main disappointment is in the lack of richness of the mythology, a lack of magic and darkness and mystery (the only time there was anything that suggested these were more than just a random assortment of animal people were when the Hürgen-Fłürgën or whatever-witch was around, and that's now gone. A handful of episodes of late have teased the audience with actually delving into at least a mytharc, but then immediately returned to the standard. While I still watch and remain hopeful that it regains my interest, I feel like it's squandered a lot of initial promise, and it's turned into just Generic Detective Guy Fights Furries.

I couldn't agree more, it feels like the X-Files with no soul.

Caught the ender (?) for OUaT today. I'm not sure how I feel about the dynamic they've set up for what is to come, but at least they are moving the story forward.

I'm not really a fan of how Jiminy Cricket was absent from the entire middle of the season.

I work some odd hours. And it really messes up my TV Watching at times. As a result, I missed...the last five episodes of Grimm. SO, one night with nothing else to do, I started to knock them out.

There is something that I like about the show. It is like, a little bit of the Greatest American Hero rubbed off on it. He got all the tools but no one really gave him an instruction book. I am really looking forward to what they do with the show next year. The final episode was perhaps the best one of all of them.

Am I nuts or did Grimm get good during the break?

They didn't have a cohesive plot for the first season beyond episodic monster-of-the-week formatting. Frankly, I don't find that as offensive as some other posters. A few months off, as well as some reassurance they won't get canned, gave them some time to sit down and think about what they want to do with the show.

They've given more back story and lore in the past two episodes than the entire first season.

^ That. Also they now have special effects and CGI that isn't leftover from Space Jam.
