Apparently Harrison Ford will be playing Col. Graff

Wow, this thing has been in production limbo for like 20 years. Surprised they're finally getting it off the ground. Let's see if it's anything like it should be, or if it's "The WB presents crazy space kids!"

Having never read (nor really cared to read) the novel, here are my thoughts:

Asa Butterfield was excellent in Hugo. I would assume he would be so here as well.

It remains to be seen if the desiccated husk that used to be Harrison Ford will turn in a good performance or if he'll just sleepwalk through as he's been doing the past 15 years or so.

The film is being directed by Gavin Hood, who made X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That's...unsettling.

I liked Harrison in Cowboys and Aliens, the first performance I liked him in in over a decade.

Ender's Game is a decent story. I read the book only a few years ago. I liked it, but I think it's overhyped (especially in Utah, since Orson Scott Card is a Mormon and we don't have too many celebrities). I've heard that this was his only good book. And I've also heard that he plagiarized much of it. With both of those rumors combined, it makes sense to me. (I heard similar things about the first Matrix movie... which also makes sense)

Enders Game is actually probably the worst of his books, Numbuk. Its not the greatest, but then it was only really supposed to be a short story, when he originally wrote it. Then, after he'd made it as an author, he went back and turned it into a book.

It can't be the worst of his books, since Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide are much worse...

I thought all three of the following books were better than Enders Game myself. Both from a writing perspective, and from content.

Ive read and re-read ender's game, and the next 7 books (speaker for the dead, xenocide, children of the mind, and the 4 books in the shadow series)

I could see Ford playing Graff well

I've read Ender's Game multiple times, Speaker for the Dead, and Ender's Shadow... all really good books.

I read Ender's Game and loved it. I read Speaker for the Dead and thought..."Well, that was ok. I guess. Maybe." I then read Xenocide and thought "OMG...so bad". I still don't know how I managed to force myself to finish it. I did not read Children of the Mind.

The Ender's Shadow books were good, however. So I wouldn't say Ender's Game was his only good book.

I actually think I prefer the Tale of Alvin Maker, but did enjoy the various Ender/Bean/Shadow books.

I will say I couldn't enjoy the "of Earth" series... hard to get into.

Have any of you read his other more recent books? Hidden Empire/Empire (I liked them) and Ender in Exile (Haven't read yet)? There was also a pretty good set of short stories featuring his parents that was pretty enjoyable.

He also has the standalone book "Enchantment" that I thought was pretty good, although definitely different.

Of the Ender's series, I think Children of the Mind was actually my favorite. Xenocide started to get a little stale, and Children of the Mind freshened it up nicely.

I did like the Shadow series better than the original series, though.

It's interesting to read Ender's Game and think about how much technology has progressed in the directions described since it's been written.

Compare what he talks about in Ender's Game to what is in the Shadow series, and you will see how much he has had to change it to match what we already developed past...

Also, the 'desks' described in Game... tablet computers anyway?

Nobody walks around the space station with any kind of mobile device on them (if I recall correctly), which does not match reality.

I didn't say it was perfect. He didnt forsee the proliferation of wireless communication like Roddenberry did. However that fits his mythos.
