Ha. It was very short sighted of them to think they can get away with this. I'm not too surprised they withdrew the bid. I'm sure AT&T wouldn't want months of very negative publicity.

Except they didn't withdraw their bid. They withdrew their application with the FCC so they can focus their efforts on getting past the DoJ.

They haven't abandoned the effort (yet).

I don't want it to happen cause I don't want all those Iphones dumped on the Tmobile network.

It would be the other way around. You'd be dumped on the ATT network.

Yeah, AT&T plans to merge TMo's entire spectrum into their data band.

It's official now. AT&T has officially withdrawn it's requests to the DOJ and FCC. The deal is off. AT&T has to pay the $3Bln penalty and fork over some spectrum.

I crossposted this in Tech as well. I had linked this article there

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-12-1 ... ition.html

Bloomberg.com wrote:
According to the terms of the offer, AT&T must pay Deutsche Telekom a $3 billion breakup fee in cash, transfer radio spectrum to T-Mobile and strike a more favorable network-sharing agreement. Deutsche Telekom has valued the breakup package at as much as $7 billion.

The article doesn't mention that all eligible T-Mobile employees will also be paid retention bonuses for staying after the merger announcement. In some cases, these bonuses are significant. :D
