x2 that. Tebow is allowed to show his appreciation during a football game, thanking God doesn't have very strict criteria. It's also not his fault that the camera shoots over to him every time he decides to do so.

The ones with fine naked *****? Not at all. Do they have words on them? I've never noticed. I imagine you're going to make some point about PETA killing more animals in a year than Michael Vick could ever dream to?

I was going to say "No, not really"... but where are the ones with naked women? That'd change my answer to "definitely not!"

I could have sworn we had a conversation about the PETA ad about the microwaved baby, didn't we?

No. Just that people have ripped on PETA on this board numerous times in the past. SNL ripping on Tim Tebow for his enthusiastic prayer at games really isn't much different.

I've never payed enough attention to them to find them annoying or otherwise, so I can't say I have an opinion either way.

Off topic, but thanks for mentioning the shooting. I lost a very close family friend that day, and you just reminded me to call his mother.

It's not that much different in that anonymous people on the internet ripping on PETA is worth getting into an uproar over to about the same degree that Teabow (or anyone else) getting ripped on by SNL is worth getting worked up over - that is to say, neither is. Beyond that, the situations are really not comparable.

Is he praying on the field to be seen praying? Or is he praying on the field because that's where he happens to be, and he wants to honor, thank, praise, or petition God at that moment?

I couldn't tell you. So I can't point to that passage and say "He's disobeying God's instructions."

Kaffis,

What I get out of it, is he drawing attention to himself? Yes obviously. Does he know he's doing it, again yes.
And if he's so bent on petitioning God, why only one knee? Is it because that's what QB's do, take a knee?
If I were god I'd only listen to half his prayer. Oh wait, that's what the skit said.

As far as praying in a public space, I see it from time to time, but I've yet to see someone block the isle at Denny's taking a knee.

Kids blocking the hall in school is inappropriate.

As for this crap about him taking one knee... so? There's no prescribed body posture for Christians to pray in. What do you care if he takes one knee or two? More importantly, who cares what you'd do if you were God? You aren't.

That reminds me of another thing.. so what if he's drawing attention to himself? We can't know if that's the reason he's doing it; some things draw attention to you, but you do them regardless because you feel you need to. Plenty of sports stars draw attention to themselves for all sorts of reasons; this one is hardly worthy of special mention.

Don't forget that there's a long history of debate over how many fingers to use while making the sign of the cross, or whether to go from right to left, or from left to right. I can see one knee or two easily being a debatable point.

That being said, remember, this is the guy who put references to religious verses on his eye black (and still does?). That kind of suggests that he does this to advertise his faith for one reason or another.

Maybe I dreamed the last 30 years of professional sports but I thought players have consistently knelt in the endzone after a TD, in post-game pressers thanked God, etc. Why is it a problem when Tebow does it?

I don't mind the SNL skit, I put it on par with the State Farm Commercials that have Aaron Rodgers and make fun of his TD move (HILARIOUS commercial btw).

Cheesehead: "Rodgers! Hey Rodgers! Discount Double-Check!"

I don't see it so much as "petitioning", as "thanking/acknowledgement".

Lol, best part of that one is when Rodgers gets his feelings hurt and says, "I'm a quarterback!" with a pouty face.

The reason that there's a long debate over those things is that there is no perscribed method of any of them. You won't find any command to (or prohibition on) making the sign of the cross anywhere in Scripture.

Furthermore, debate among Christians about what posture to pray in or how to make the *SotC does not somehow make comments about what someone who isn't even a believer would do in God's position anything other than a snide, pointless cheap shot.

To you, maybe. That certainly doesn't suggest it to me anymore than the scriptural references that were practicaly invisible in the serial numbers of the gunsights the Army was buying some sort of "advertisement".

Um, isn't that like a big part of Christianity? Go forth and spread the word? Is it only a bad thing because he's popular?

It is, but by the same token a large part of what a person does as a Christian is not part of spreading the word per se even if it's done where others can see it. We can't really know what his reason for doing it is unless he says so. Sometimes "spreading the word" is really more of a matter of doing things that are outwardly visible to others but aren't for them. In other words we do what we do and if it inspires someone to ask us about them, we answer.

I couldn't care less about the Broncos, but I'm happy to see the Steelers out.

Oh, and it was kind of fun watching Tebow play.
