Ok, so Oonagh took a little creative license with this one.
It wasn't a Christmas present, per se. It was already a forgone conclusion that we were buying a new car right after the holiday. The inspection on the Neon was due, we had already put too many $$$ into a car that was already paid off, and it just wasn't big enough for our soon to be expanded family.
So, it's only a present in the sense that it came hand-in-hand with the X-mas holiday. She and I will be paying for it for a few years.
On a related note, I never got those "buy a car for a present" commercials. Who actually spends 20-30 grand and up for a present as such? This was a decision many months coming along with making sure the money is there and ready to be dropped on such a "gift". My same incredulity goes along with "Buy a smartphone" as a present, especially when they offer such rates along with signing up for 2 years of a data plan. "Merry Christmas, here's your new phone. Oh and by the way, you are locked into a 2 year overly expensive data plan."
Thank god, there is some sanity left in the world. I always figured it was just that I live in LA, where (some) people are rich (and stupid) enough to do something like that. Glad you put some thought into it.
And, Mook - thanks, that was refreshing.
