Well it's blackfish at play in Hermitage Bay

As far as I can see most marine biologists are pretty far off base in their work on "these" species.

The one pictured here is not the only species, In the Gulf of Mexico there are blackfish that
appear more closely related to bottle-nose dolphin.

Most probably yes but very difficult to obtain. They more than comfortable in competing
with man.

Are you sure you're not Japanese Lydiaa? They are oceanic dolphins, way larger than Flipper and frequently mistaken for whales.

Short answer, yes, but very fatty. They are not poisonous, and they are carnivores - big surprise most large marine life is.

Long answer, ask the cooks here if they would/could prepare them and how they would do it if they would. Some folk have ethical concerns about eating them.

I like fish. We used to have a trick where we would catch a black grouper and fillet him alive,
laugh when the spasming meat hit the hot grease. So I empathise with your taste for sea-food.

I think marine mammals are pretty widely protected by "law" though, still a few lotteries as I understand.

The only link I can provide you is memory, and not only my own.

Individuals from schools of bottle-nose and spinner dolphins have been observed to fall in with the blackfish and exhibit behaviour otherwise unexpressed in other encounters.

In the crossed aim hunting that went on between blackfish and different boats what you were suggesting falls very close to the truth. To drop a blackfish off on a boat catching fish was a real
issue.
