A friend of mine posted that song to Facebook the other day and it's been stuck in my head ever since. Gotye as a vocalist makes me think someone ran Bono, Peter Gabriel and Sting together through a sausage maker, and Kimbra is just sublime. Spoilered for implied nudity in the video. Probably okay for work, but if you work in Puritan country maybe you oughtta wait.

Never heard of either of them, and I thought your description of him was quite the flight of fancy...right up until he gets to the chorus, where if you hadn't mentioned it, I'd have at least been comparing him to Peter Gabriel and Sting. (Not quite sure I'd throw Bono in there, but ... yeah. This is nice.)
