If you're gonna stay 9mm, that puts the 1911's out. They're .45s

They do make 1911 configs for 9mm. Not really a 1911 I know but they are out there.

I'd assume it was because he thought his previous stance on guns, highlighted by his statement that he is scared of anyone with more than two guns, would lead to flaming. Oh, and guns are bad mmmkay?

A little of A and a little of B.

Most of the gun owners post in Hellfire whereas I never see a lot of these names in General, Entertainment, Sports, etc.

Really? I haven't noticed that.

I am going to get a CC permit. I don't know that I will ever carry it around but it'd be preferable to have the option.

So far I have:
1) Glock (no model recommendation)
2) Beretta 92FS
3) Sig 226
4) Several recommendations for the various 1911s
5) H&K P2000

I appreciate the .357 and .45 advice but I really want to stick with a 9mm for the cost of ammo since I'd imagine I'll spend a lot of time at the range solo + with family/friends.

The .357 revolver will fire a .38 round. As I stated before, this combo offers range time firing cheap .38s and the BOOM of .357 magnum when that's wanted/required. No need for two different guns. ;)

I have the Glock 19 the compact version of the 9mm. I really like it. A 17 (fullsize) is a bit too big to conceal well.

Can I ask what made you change your mind?

To be honest I have no idea. I am not worried about my safety. I don't plan on carrying it around. I am not concerned about 2nd amendment rights being stripped down. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out and cannot for the life of me understand it.

I find myself in the same position when I make valuations based on emotions/feelings as opposed to having logical reasoning behind my choices. If I have actual reasons to make a valuation a certain way, then if I change my position, I can point to the reasons I had to make the decision initially and the reasons for the change.

Exactly who is being a dick about it?

How is anyone being a "$#%$@#"? Or is it that you just couldn't resist getting your two cents in on a topic you have no worthwhile input to offer?

I didn't take it as dickish. I have no rational explanation for my dislike of guns nor for my current stance of wanting one and it is something I have been trying to figure out for at least the past two months.

Want a sociological explanation? Economic uncertainty, perhaps a perception of a rising crime rate in your area, and a vague sense of being demasculated (in a societal sense - witness Nitefox's criticism of how white American males are portrayed in popular culture) has led you to want some control over your life. A pistol - on the bedstand, concealed, whatever - can provide that feeling. Oh, and you're probably about to hit 30, right? That might contribute to this feeling, too.

Either that, or you just like to make big booming sounds, like many males (self included).

Do you still dislike them? That would be hard to rationalize.

Vindi, you have a long record of being antagonistic just because you can. I''d say you can't blame someone from reading something nontextual into your posts based on past performance, but of course, you can.

And yet, no actual rationale for your comment. Keep up the mind reading, it's as effective as ever.

I have no doubt that you feel that way, just as I'm sure you feel that you are above such an accusation yourself. Perhaps this is another in your history of giving unsolicited "fatherly" advice? I'd say that I can blame someone for reading something into and commenting on a post when they have no legitimate reason for doing so, then again, I am not a defender of using confirmation bias as a replacement for logical discourse. YMMV.
Could it be that someone who has made a career on this board of making inimical, unsubstantiated remarks commenting on what they perceive as my being a "$#%$@#" (to someone else, who doesn't agree with that assessment no less), might be the one who is being antagonistic? How about doing so in a thread where they have absolutely nothing of substance to offer and have proven so? Might it be best not to jump in with both feet when one has no reason to? As you point out, or course, one can.

Well Vindi, that wasn't me trying to give fatherly advice. I know you wouldn't take it when given in the best of times. This is Hellfire, it was a pretty direct jab at your tendency to be a jerk as often as you can.

Or, at least that is how I see your posting habits. Others mileage may vary.

Ayup, usually I limit my advice-taking to those who have shown acumen in the areas I am seeking their counsel, just makes sense. As to the other, I tend to respond in kind but once again, relying on findings based on confirmation bias tends to skew the results.

Heheh, nobody used the "He threatened me with physical violence!!1!1!!" tripe. At least we were able to wear our big boy pants in that regard.
