I've added a C-9 to the list of guns to try, but honestly so long as it is under $900 I am more concerned with reliability, handling and accuracy.

$900 is a lot of money to throw at a handgun if you've never owned one of your own before; it's also a lot of money to invest in something that may or may not get used (and I'm not talking about shooting people). I'm not a big fan of Hi-Point guns, because I don't have any need for them; however, this shouldn't discourage you from considering one if you want a low entry cost, a fairly reliable piece of hardware, and something simple to maintain.

Despite not being 9mm, I stand by my original recommendation if you're going to spend $900: buy a Colt Python in .357 and shoot .38s through it for target practice. I understand your arguments about 9mm ammunition, but 9mm, .22 LR, .22 MAG, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP are all getting troublesome to come by in factory loads of late.

What is a "factory load"?

Think "store-bought".

Why would you want a Concealed weapon permit? Why would you need to carry a gun around?

I live about 1.5-2 hrs from Deetroit :p

If did live there...maybe I would need to carry a gun around, but what is the point if you don't live somewhere that is scary?

Hopwin lives in Cleveland. It also ranks high on nice lists like this one.

It's like a condom. It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Chances are good you won't ever need it, but you can never know if you might be in that situation.

I carry mine everywhere I go, unless I'm going to be drinking. I don't want to be without it just in case it's that one day where I need it. Hopefully, that day won't arrive. Hope, however, is not a plan.

The principle of having it when you need it is what's the same, not the circumstances of employing it. I worry that some ******* might shoot up the gas station when I'm in there; I'm not too worried that he's going to try to **** me right there in the gas station, mainly because he'd have to shoot me anyhow.

I'm married now so there's no need to worry about condoms anymore, but if I were single and going out partying and there was the possibility of having sex with someone, I would make an effort to have condoms prior to social events of that nature.

You're quite ladylike and I'd venture to say not in the habit of spontaneously having sex with people, so you don't usually need to have a condom with you. However, I suspect that if there was someone you were planning to have sex with you'd make an effort to ensure condoms were available, even if it were only by asking your partner "did you buy some? Sorry sweetie, no glove, no love."

You're a nurse.. do you keep latex gloves handy in your car in case you come upon an injured person? It would be a lot like doing that. You don't plan on encountering an injured person when you go out but you never know when it will occur, and I'm sure you would really hate to treat people without taking basic precautions.

No glove, no love ... Like that ;)

True, true...I'm not a party animal and I don't believe in hook ups..so no need for a condom in my purse. A gun? Maybe...

DE, you know me ;). I carry gloves, a CPR mask, Bottle of Nitro and some ace wrap.

See? same thing. In addition to my gun, I carry a pair of handcuffs. You never know, the guy might give up, and I need to be able to cuff him.

I'm almost morbidly curious to see where this comment rears its head next time.

I carry my gun everywhere, also a flashlight, fire starter, and a multitool. A first aid kid, air compressor, change of clothes, extra gas, blankets, water, toolkit, and spare food in my car.

It isn't need, it is for emergencies.

Just like "why would you need a fire extinguisher in your house"? Better to have and not need than need and not have.

Proper risk management. Small investment to mitigate large impact low incidence risk = smart.

Check, check and check.

I live 45 mintues from Detroit. I don't feel the need to own a gun.

I also don't feel the need to go there.
