Slow at parts for first season, but overall quite addictive.

Waiting for the second season...

For the books: Is there a prequel that tells Robert, Ned and Jon's story?

No, but you get bits and pieces such that you can puzzle out how things happened as the main series progresses.

I'm actually in the middle of a re-read of AFFC (first one). It is much better the second time around (and after the 5th book is already out). I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I think the reason is that after the third book you are extremely interested in what happens to several characters, and you don't find that in AFFC for the most part. That is fairly frustrating and reduces the enjoyment of the book the first time around. The second time, you know what it is about and can enjoy it for what it is.

I don't know what you mean by "it and the new one are the same book essentially". The 4th book, and the first half of the 5th book cover the same time period if that is what you mean. The 2nd half of the 5th book goes past that.

And Martin doesn't lack an editor, it is just he wrote himself into a difficult corner. He intended to have a 5 year gap in the story after the 3rd book. When he started writing it, however, it ended up not working. He now had a ton of issues since the gap disappeared. He's written himself out of that corner and is hopefully back on track.

He said at the end of Crows that he wrote so much it filled two books, so he split it up.

I haven't read the latest book yet. I am re-reading the entire set to get back up to speed. Just started AFFC. I am looking forward to getting to new material, but it's been so long since I read the others that it feels new all over again already.

Yeah, it's hard to believe it's been almost a year. And that's a good thing, 'cause I'm pumped for another season already.

Yeah, she's totally not pretty enough to be a 15 year old.

We all know that the character is 15 years old ...

That doesn't change the fact that Martin's description pretty much considers her the second coming of Aphrodite ...

In all fairness, she can't really be expected to live up to that...

Hmm. I always interpreted her as attractive, but moreso for her nubility and exotic coloration than anything else.

Clearly they dropped the ball on the coloration with the pretty apparent dye job, but the actress seems passably nubile, as it were.

Yes, but you don't need to cast a featureless, mush faced British school-girl with the acting ability of a ... <anything I'd put here would be more insulted than the actress>.

Willingness to say all her lines completely naked on screen raises her value to HBO's typical casting directors.

It also means we get to look at bad boobs and more make up and post-processing instead of good acting ...

I don't know any of the women you've run your game on, so I'm going purely by your posts. I don't think any of the women here have ever read your posts and thought, "Hmm. I'm beautiful just the way I am. Maybe I should just not put on makeup today." However, women do read and hear things like, "She's not pretty enough," and think that they're too fat, too skinny, too short, too tall, too red-haired, too black-haired, too blond, or just generally too not perfect enough.

They are definitely not hearing this:

That would be because I'm not comparing real women to real women; I'm comparing real women to fictional characters ...
