That's bad ***. I really want to temper my enthusiasm on this one. I also want to see more Black Widow.

Soon as I saw it, it became my wall paper at work.

Beautiful. I love the witty banter so far. Knowing who is writing and directing and the material he has to work with, I expect a lot more of it.

Ditto. The banter in this film should set the standard for all superhero team films to come.

Oh man, great trailer.

"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" bwahahaha. RDJ/Tony Stark ftw. The enormous green rage monster line had me laughing too. Can't wait.

I am now officially pumped about this film. I hope Stark doesn't run away it with it the way the trailer alludes. Not that Stark isn't cool, he's just had two movies of his own.

You get a masterful editor, you can make a trailer look however you want. My hunch: Since Iron Man is the far more popular movie icon right now, they are making sure this sells to the right crowd by having him predominantly in the trailer.

this possibility occurred to me after I wrote my post.

Whoa:

Marvel’s The Avengers, which will be released by Disney in May 2012, broke iTunes records when the trailer was downloaded more than 10 million times in the first 24 hours.

I was kind of underwhelmed by that trailer/commercial. The effects shots were pretty enough, once I had watched it a second time to try to catch better glimpses amidst the ADD action editing, but the dialogue and narrative were really kind of bland and unfocused. It didn't have nearly the witty one-liner density to make me smile as the last one(s) did, and it wasn't really a compelling trailer from a building tension point of view, either. Bonus points for giving me more Iron Man in action footage so I know the "Iron Man yes, Tony Stark no" line at the end of Iron Man 2 is a red herring, and I still want to see the movie based on what it IS and who's in/on it, but the trailer itself is maybe a 6/10 for me.

I have no objections to it at all. They were trying to sell an action movie with Super Heroes in it to a wide audience. Job done.

I trust Joss.

Again my only complaint is that Stark appears to be stealing the trailer

Don't get me wrong. This trailer hasn't made me worried, or reduced my enthusiasm for the movie. However, it didn't *increase* my hype level, and I'm dubious as to whether it would make me excited if I didn't know what The Avengers were beforehand. The previous trailer did a better job of that, I think.

I don't think it's possible for something to increase my hype level for this movie...not since they announced Whedon would be at the helm. I think this commercial is more targeted at the non-geeks who were watching the superbowl and haven't yet been exposed to the hype.

That said, I loved watching it...

Was Black Widow a big player in the Avengers comics? I dont recall much of her at all. My wife asked me who Scarlett Johanson was supposed to be and I had to look it up.
