[*](11:28:13 AM) Talytaly: you know what i love about christmas?
(11:28:28 AM) Talytaly: eggnog. They don't sell eggnog at all during the rest of the year.
(11:28:48 AM) Corolinth: Eggnog just sounds nasty.
(11:28:55 AM) Corolinth: Let it roll off your tongue.
(11:28:56 AM) Corolinth: Eggnog.
(11:28:59 AM) Corolinth: Doesn't that sound disgusting?
(11:29:16 AM) Talytaly: well, i know what egg is. I've never been entirely sure what the nog portion is made of.
(11:29:16 AM) Corolinth: I mean, eggs are pretty good, right? But what the **** is this "nog"?
(11:29:38 AM) Corolinth: Eggs are good cooked, though. Eggnog? That's cold. And raw.
(11:29:41 AM) Talytaly: but it's so yummy. Especially with rum.
(11:29:45 AM) Corolinth: It has the consistency if semen.
(11:29:47 AM) Talytaly: commercial eggnog has no raw egg.
(11:30:00 AM) Corolinth: Which would be okay, if it were semen, it were warm, and you were ****.
(11:30:30 AM) Corolinth: It's even somewhat yellowish, which is the color cum turns as it dries and stains your bedsheets.
(11:30:47 AM) Corolinth: All signs indicate that eggnog is moldy, lukewarm, month-old cum.
(11:31:34 AM) Talytaly: i don't think you'd care for Advocaat then, either.
(11:31:42 AM) Corolinth: Probably not.

Is it fair, from the above post, to assume that Corolinth does not change his sheets for months on end?

While I deeply regret reading that exchange, according to Wiki, the "nog" comes from Middle English "noggin", a term for a small wooden carved mug used to serve alcohol. That's one explanation given, anyway.

Eggnoggin sounds like a dirty verb.

As an aside, I googled advocaat, and it indeed looks hideous.

After almost a decade of exposure, I'm generally immune to his colorful imagery.

And apparently (according to Coro in the above exchange) you've developed an affinity for simulated cum :/

I don't mind Eggnog, but it's definitely not something you want to have in large quantities or throw up after drinking too much bourbon. Hmmm, yet more suspicious semen parallels. Maybe Coro is correct.

Cum is neither sweet nor flavored with nutmeg. In fact, I don't notice many similarities at all.

The OED more or less concurs. It may be related to "noggin" (pointing out that Gaelic "noigean" and Irish "noigín" were borrowed in from English) as you say. Another possibility is that it's related to "nug", which is apparently a regional (SW England) word showing up in the phrase "nugs of balm", meaning "a medicinal distillate, perhaps of a kind of balsam".

Both of these date back to the late 16th and early 17th century, but the etymology of both are unknown. "Nog" as a name for strong ale doesn't show up until late 17th century, and "egg-nog" only appears in the mid 19th century, primarily in the U.S.

Still another possiblity is from Norwegian "knagg" and Danish "knag". Apparently these both refer to a wooden peg. "Knugged ale" is a Scottish variety of ale, warmed with hot poker, which may or may not have been called something like a "knag(g)".

Long story short, "nog" probably refers to booze, but no one is quite sure why.

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol eggnog/cum—that our lives had become unmanageable.

Well, they're both mostly protein, and have roughly the same number of calories

Then there's this: :?

(what were the odds that I would ever find a legitimate reason to link that thread?)

But while we're linking Straight Dope articles, here's what Cecil has to say about "nog":

What's the Origin of Egg Nog?

Good idea Midgen. Tagged as NSFW/H.

Am I the only one that found the posted conversation hilarious? Clearly, the weekly DnD game has tainted me.

The fact that the conversation didn't inspire me to immediately turn off my instant messenger app implies i've grown calloused to Corolinthisms. The fact that I didn't directly address his putrid analogy in the initial conversation implies I am not corrupted by him!

Due to it's similar consistency and color to Eggnog, and your stated disdain for such. I did not address the analogy itself!
