Interesting since I have never met a healthy vegetarian and human biology would indicate that this is a falsehood.

There is actually a LOT of science to suggest that a primarily plant based diet is what the vast majority of our ancestors ate. High quantities of meat and dairy have only been readily available since the industrial revolution.

So what? A vegetarian diet is technically one consisting of anything but animal derived products. I could easily construct a diet of such things that would lead to a death in your mid 50's. I know plenty of Buddhist observing vegetarians that are magnitudes more unhealthy than I am.

A healthy diet (which vegetarian doesn't necessarily qualify as) is only one part of a healthy lifestyle.

Having retinal (ganglion) exposure to sunlight in the blue end of the wavelength is probably the most important component of health, one we have not evolved to escape and one reflected by the myriad of "incurable" diseases plaguing modern man.

A persons life anymore I base off of their genes and not their diet or healthy lifestyle. Too many examples have I experienced. Our neighbor down the street-- Healthy guy! Ate well, cut out red meat, never drank, never smoked and was jogging in Valley Forge National Park and dropped dead of a heartattck in the park. 63 years old.

My grandmother was an alcoholic most of her life drinking beer and whiskey, was addicted to her anti-depression meds she got from her doctor and only told him at 85 she was a recovering alcoholic which he had no clue about or he wouldn't have given them to her. Smoked two packs a day in private, so her family wouldn't be upset with her. She quit smoking at 89. Thought it was so cute because one day Foamy and I were in the car and she said to Foamy when I went into the drugstore to get her anti-diarrhea medicine and cigs at 88 years old, "Foamy- I know my daughters want me to quit because it would be healthier." Foamy turned around and said, "Gamma- pronounced- Gahma- at your age I would say screw them and light-em up" Not to mention she ate three donuts a day- drank only Coke. Ate Fried chicken everyday for lunch and sometimes dinner with a coke, Oh and I forgot to mention the one full pot of coffee everyday as well. God forbid if it was decaf. Oh and we would have to hide her chocolate because of the diarrhea thing. She died at 91.

Oh and my grandfather died at 89. He was only one year older than her, so more then likely she died of a broken heart and depression since she had my grandfather so long.

It is all in the genes baby! All in the genes

A different account.

http://ordinary-gentlemen.com/blog/2012 ... -troversy/

Quote:
By and large, what this story boils down to is that a low-income child whose tuition is fully subsidized by the state under a program her mother opted into was offered some additional food to supplement the boxed lunch she brought from home. This option was provided not because of some overarching, generally applicable law or regulation, but because the program in which her mother and school voluntarily participate requires such an option be available. The mother apparently objects to this option being provided to her daughter, not because of any health concerns or the like, but because she incorrectly believes that she will be charged additional money for her child being provided this option. Since she won’t in fact be charged for this and there is no evidence she was ever going to be charged for it, there is absolutely no harm actually being done to her or her child.

One thing on this topic that I find interesting, is that you absolutely cannot proceed through any discussion without getting bogged down in anecdotal observations. "I've never been told to take this" "All the vegetarians I know blah blah blah".

It's quite apparent that the vast majority of people (and maybe more) don't know what the **** they are talking about on this subject. It's also quite clear that companies and organizations take advantage of this. (supplements, diet fads, organic vs fortified, etc). People are making progress overall, I think, but there's a long way to go. And I doubt seriously there will be one answer that fits all. All the more reason why what we eat should not be regulated so tightly (which, according to Hokanu's post, it isn't).

Hey now, I provided studies showing a strictly vegetarian diet is not healthy lol

I still want to know what this coffee enema business is all about. That's a hell of a lot more interesting than anything else in this thread (in a "you wish you could look away but you can't" sort of way.)

Well caffine has lots of uses... A stimulant, helps with losing weight, possible cancer warding, helpful in premature babies... etc, etc, etc.

As you know certain areas of dermal absorption have had a proven record of being more effective than the stomach, with the er... enema being the dermal absorption area of choice.

So combine the two.. and let your imagination run while?

I'm pretty sure it's along the same lines as the studies that "showed" drinking a glass of wine every day led to greatly increased health - in that people who can afford to waste money on regular coffee enemas generally have much better health than those who can't.

While I can see the point in an enema to relieve constipation, I'm just not getting my head around why it would occur to anyone to put a nozzle in their butt and then send coffee through it in the first place.

First thing in the morning I usually do a headstand, jam a funnel up my ***, and have the wife waste a nice hot pot of dark roast.

Its only a waste if she spills it.

From an evolutionary standpoint it is meat that made us into what we are today. Brain material requires ~ 16 times more protein than muscle (If I am remembering correctly). Our ancestors that discovered fire which then led to cooking meat, making it easier to chew than raw meat gave them the extra protein to develop bigger brains.

Can you survive on a vegetarian diet sure, but why would you want to? The biggest problems humans have is moderating their eating habits. We are programmed to eat when it is available which makes it difficult to have smaller portions. There is nothing really bad for you in small amounts, sugar, fat, etc. the problem lies in going overboard.

I think part of what's missed here is the simple fact that most people simply like meat; even some people that don't eat it.

Even if there is some average increase in lifespan from vegetarianism, it's not some overwhelming thing like "You'll be lucky to live beyond 60 if you eat meat!" and there's the simple fact that we haven't isolated out all the variables of other behavior that differentiate vegetarians from the average person.

Eating is a major part of life. We do it several times a day, every day, and a great deal of our social interaction includes or even revolves around food. There's therefore a certain "quality of life" aspect to eating meat if you like it; who wants to force themselves to do without meat when they don't have to if they like to eat it?

What if you can't drink because of throat cancer, but still crave the caffeine high?

Voila! Coffee enema...

From what I understand, water primarily, but also alcohol is absorbed far more quickly from colon (to the point where it is dangerous to ingest alcohol that way because of spiking blood alcohol levels. (I have friends who are WAY too curious about this sort of thing) Pure speculation, but perhaps caffeine would also function this way?

Get the caffeine caps, break them apart and rail it!

I'd heard of alcoholics doing this but it never occurred to me that someone would do it to get the caffeine.

I'm definitely on the non-coffe-enema side.
