worst book report ever.

EDIT: Just Googled it. It's Stephen King. That's all I needed to know. I don't like Stephen King. No, that's not fair, I actively dislike Stephen King. It's not just enough for me to not read his books. Most bad writers can just be ignored. The problem with Stephen King is that he comes up with FANTASTIC plot ideas, then shits out a book in about 15 minutes that is always too long, always boring, and very poorly written. God, it took me months to read Insomnia because I kept falling asleep.

So it's not just that he wrote a bad novel, but he destroyed a great idea. He should just sell his book ideas to decent writers. He and Barry Sadler can eat a dick.

If you tell me there is a Tower reference I will get on it :3

I was unaware of that. The first three were poor, the fourth was good. 5+ bad again. Well, I think I only made it as far as 8 or 9.

Reading the Tower series now.

Basically, probably half of the (long) book is about how this old guy is really, really tired, but he can't sleep. It gets into significant descriptions about how he's so very sleepy, all he wants to do is sleep, his eyelids are sooo heavy, he's so tired, how nice would it be to just relax, breathe deeply, and drift off.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I bought this a few weeks ago, but haven't had the chance to read it yet. I plan to do so in the very near future.

And, for the record, I LOVED Insomnia. One of my favorite King books. And not just for the Dark Tower references. I truly loved it, and got really attached to Ralph and Lois. I actually wouldn't mind going back and reading it again (for the 4th time, I think), since it's been a while since I read it last. But I've got way too many other things to read, and not nearly enough time to do so.

I don't think I've ever been so emotionally involved in a book as I am in 11/22/63.

And yeah, I enjoyed Insomnia, though I've never read the Dark Tower series (well, I read the original version of The Gunslinger, but not the revision, and it was so long ago I remember little to nothing about it). I'm probably starting it after I finish 11/22/63, though.

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

Wow. Finally started this book today, and I can't put it down. I want to keep reading, but it's time to go to bed. Dammit, I wish I didn't have to goto work tomorrow, so I could stay up and finish it!

There's too much child abuse/molestation in his books for me to read them. I mean, it's literally everywhere in his earlier stuff. So, I don't read anything by him anymore.

I finally finished this yesterday. Farsky is right, it's an amazing book. I also got far too attached and emotionally invovled in this book. And it made the ending very bittersweet for me. I understand why it ended the way it did - that's really the only way it could have ended. But that doesn't mean I have to like it!



And the ending is not bad, by any means. And like I said, I totally understand why it had to end that way. All in all, it was a fantastic book. I will be re-reading it again very, very soon.

The Dark Tower series started off well (the Gunslinger was fun), but quickly turned into something so weird and incomprehensible that Lewis Carroll would have accused Steven King of being on some very strong narcotics while writing it. I couldn't finish book three.

I haven't read any other Stephen King.

Ooh, that's too bad. Excellent series. Especially since he's been connecting threads to it from the rest of his work for 30 years now.

Of course, if you're not a fan of his writing, probably won't enjoy it much. If you are interested in reading anything from him, I recommend the classics first, from when he was really on fire (and cocaine). IT, The stand, misery, the shining. His plots almost always take a back seat to the immense characterization he does.

If you do end up reading the whole Dark Tower series, in the last book he warns you to stop reading at a certain point near the end. Listen to him.

Yeah. Unfortunately, after 7 books, NO ONE is going to simply not read the ending. He flubbed that ending so badly. So much potential.
